derbi variant owners, quick question

so i just got a 86 variant SLE frame.

unfortunately the vin tag on the head tube was removed.

as many of you know, in 1981 all VIN numbers were standardized to contain 17 digits. I have no reason to believe this frame is stolen, so not to worry.

If anybody with a 1984-1986 variant SL, SLE whatever could post the prefix of their vin numbers so I can try to piece together the correct VIN number and get this thing registered.

my 88 variant sport is VTHMD3099JSXXXXXX

much appreciated.

thanks man. unfortunately before 1981 VIN numbers werent required to be 17 digits. so that wont work for me. thanks anyway. really nice SL by the way.

Re: derbi variant owners, quick question

I had the same problem Vic, buy my insurance agent just added a bunch of one's at the end of my VIN to make 17 digits, not sure how legit that was, but it got me registered...

Re: derbi variant owners, quick question

VIN = ZTHM1T020ES005048

DOM = 11-84

Model = SLE

mileage = 114.5

That is an odd number though as most Derbis have the first 3 digits of the vin (WMI number) as VTH which corresponds to the following info:

Manufacturer Name NACIONAL MOTOR S.A. dba DERBI

WMI VTH

Address C/BARCELONA, 19

08107 MARTORELLES (BARCELONA)

BARCELONA,

Product Type MOTORCYCLE

Model MOPED

A search of ZTH came back as nothing.

Re: derbi variant owners, quick question

My vin was under the seat of all places, but mine was not a U.S. market bike, somebody bought it while stationed in Spain.
