My fast Pinto

So I got my Moto Matic Mopeds 8p pipe this week and got my moped tuned. Went for a nice slow ride of 64 mph gps. Rafter, you rule!

This pipe took me from a steady 58mph with an occasional 60-62 blip to a steady 64mph. Now to upgrade my carb from a 19mm to 21mm.

Re: My fast Pinto

go big, go 24mm!

Re: My fast Pinto

it looks like you just bolted your tank to the frame. did you drill holes and tap them or run a bolt all they way and out the other side? thanks for the tips.

Re: My fast Pinto

Congradulations! I could hear your laughter in the background when Ryan told me.

Re: My fast Pinto

Re: My fast Pinto

Moto-matic is the very talented, very attractive, Nate and Rafter from the Landsquids. Contact them.

Re: My fast Pinto

Nate is the main man. I just answer the phone. Happily. :) Congrats Sue! You dont get to go that fast by buying a new pipe. You have some credit to take too.

Re: My fast Pinto

64 mph on 19mm of carb.

impressive.

Re: My fast Pinto

64 mph on 19mm carb on a metra 80, no less. Carb size ain't everything.

Re: My fast Pinto

Sick sick sick. I still want to see that thing rip. Every time I have ridden with you guys, you never show them off!

Re: My fast Pinto

Absolutely. I just didn't know who all to thank. So also a huge thanks to Nate. The craftsmanship is amazing. When I bolted it on the fit was perfect.

_You dont get to go that fast by buying a new pipe._

So here is the setup:

80 metra-case matched.

19mm Dellorto carb

3 shoe clutch

stuffed race crank

moto matic 8p

A huge amount of time went into this and I am extremely happy with how it has turned out. I can hardly believe that I can go 64mph on a moped.

As for carbs, the Dellorto manual states:

-A larger sized carburetor generally allows more power at high rpm ie. a higher maximum speed. However, simply fitting just a larger carburetor may not bring about the desired increase in power output as this often only follows from several additional engine modifications, each designed to improve some other aspect of the engine's performance.

-A smaller carburetor will give better pick-up and therefor in selecting a choke size, you should always balance your power and acceleration requirements.

I started out small, and even with the 18x36 gearing and the pipe i have a good bit of bottom end left that I am willing to sacrifice for more top end. That has been my method on this entire build. I've been conservative on everything and then upgrade from there. Now I am amassing bits and pieces that I will be able to use on a different, less extreme build.

Dylan--We miss you too!!!

Lori -- Thanks. I couldn't stop laughing. This is insane!

The tank is mounted thru the frame with threaded rod and nuts.

Re: My fast Pinto

So rad, Sue! If my lanky legs would have allowed me to ride that thing, I definitely would have asked if I could at Bomb Prom.

Re: My fast Pinto

One other thing I forgot to mention, stock pedals will not clear the pipe. I added about 2" to the pedal shaft.

Re: My fast Pinto

now to break 65...
