Tomos Biturbo

I am contemplating getting the biturbo muffler for my bike, yet would like some help and info. First, is this thing going to be anoyingly noisy and have me going deaf in two weeks. Second does anyone know if this muffler decreases engine life or in anyway makes the bike run worse?

Thanks for the feedback

Armando

Re: Tomos Biturbo

A biturbo is surprisingly quiet, as long as you have a good seal between the engine and the pipe. (also make sure it still has the glass packing if it is a used pipe) I have had a biturbo for over a year, and it runs just as good as the day i put it on. It simply allows the engine to rev a little higher. Its not like putting on a bore kit, where it will tear up your transmission. hehe!

I've gotten one for my '98 Tomos Targa LX. It was the best thing I could do for the bike. If you were to get one on your bike, I would recommend getting a larger jet in the carb. I replaced mine with a #56 jet. This uses more gas in the fuel to air mixture. The BiTurbo muffler isn't that loud. When I first got it, I never recieved a gasket with the muffler. I was too anxious to leave the muffler sit. I put it on and tightened the nuts up to hold it on. The nuts were not that tight because it was hard to turn w/ only one wrench. When I started the Moped up, it was the loudest thing I've heard. I was gonna take it for a cruise around the block at 10:30pm and it was way to loud to do so. By installing it with a gasket it was much softer. It is a little louder, but not much. When running w/out a gasket was like listening to those Import Cars running with those Coffee Can mufflers(not even considered a muffler). This muffler is a very big increase of power from the stock. I've put the Turbo muffler and bigger jet on my moped and was getting top speed of 38mph. I've put the bigger sprocket on my ped afterwards and it didn't do much for me. I was getting the same speed...but I have topped at 40mph if I was ducking down towards the moped...I've this moped had a bigger engine I would get more speed. Wish all streets were 30mph...then everyone at Moped Army and elsewhere wouldn't have to worry too much about making the moped faster. Hope this info helps you.

Re: Tomos Biturbo

Thank you guys for the information, it makes me feel better to know that this thing is not going to make me deaf.

Second question, how hard is it to install, I must say that I am not the handiest person around.

Thanks,

Armando

Very easy to install. All you have to do is loosen up the nuts that attach this Muffler to the engine and loosen up the nut towards the back wheel that holds the Muffler in place. When you put the Turbo muffler on, the only problem you will run into is putting the two nuts onto the studs that connects the muffler to the engine. Since this pipe is bigger, there is alot less room to use a socket. What you will need to do is use one wrench perpendicular and attach another onto it to use to turn it. This will be able to make it nice and tight.

Re: Tomos Biturbo

I put a biturbo on my '92 tomos golden bullet ttlx and also put a 53 jet in it. I can go up to 50mph down hill and ~40 on flat ground. The best way to put the pipe on is with vise grips, they adjust with a scew on the side to clamp with vise like strength to a nut. It will take a while since you hafta clamp them on and then rotate the nut a tiny bit and unclamp them, repeat the process.... but you will be having lots of fun after you get that thing on there. I still want to go faster, i'm going to try several different air filters to see if they make th engine perform better..

Joel,

You mentioned you've gotten 50mph on the Tomos downhill and 40mph on Flat ground. I have a '98 Tomos Targa LX. I put a Turbo muffler, #56 jet and a 27 tooth sprocket on my 'ped. I get about 38mph on flat ground w/ wind not blowing at me. I can hit 40mph if No wind is blowing towards me and I'm ducking down towards the bike. Not to be rude, how much do you weigh? Weight would probably have much to do with a few mph faster. I weigh about 155lbs. Wouldnt running a #53 jet be bad because the piston will heat up faster cause its not running as rich? Thanks

Re: Tomos Biturbo

No, The bike will breath better, watch you spark plug for running too lean, may or maynot need to rejet. It is a little louder, but not ticket getting loud. If not allready, try a synthetic oil mix....Doug
