Jerry's right, and that's according to the Tomos manual .. Type A is also called Dexron 111 Mercon.

Re: a35 tomos trans fluid

I use type f in my a35, works perfect.

Re: a35 tomos trans fluid

check the type F transmission fluid website .. it's made by Ford, and on the website Ford says do not use Type A in newer transmissions where type A is recommended. The A35 is relatively new .. but if you don't want to follow manufacturers' recommendations that's up to you.

Re: a35 tomos trans fluid

i started using 10w30 in both of my a35's, its what the old a3 motors called for, it seems to work alot better

Re: a35 tomos trans fluid

you should try a mix of type f and 10w30. works good for me.

Re: a35 tomos trans fluid

I use Type-F, but it's not recommended :(

Re: a35 tomos trans fluid

This is what my repair manual says:

PROTIP: The factory recommends Type F transmission fluid for standard factory performance. Based on individual preferences, if the owner is wanting a quicker shift out of first gear, then Dextron/Mercon III is suggested. If the owner is wanting the engine to stay in first gear longer, then SAE30 motor oil is suggested. SAE 30 is not recommended for colder climates! All of these oils can be purchased at any auto parts store.

Re: a35 tomos trans fluid

alot of people tell me.

DONT USE type F ATF! ( and i dont)

some people say its ok( i still dont use it)

Some people say use type A, ive only seen it once in a convience store, and i had no money.

ive got some MOTUL 10W30 wet clutch fluid. i am planning to use that next fluid change.

right now ive got 85W-145 Gear oil in my box, and before that i used SAE30 strait.

personally i think type f is bad because of the frrictionous addative. heavy oil, and gear oils work really good because it lets it ligger and slip in 1st gear a little longer. whatever you want man, its your moped.

Straight up Lucas trans treatment. Keeps back wheel from getting dirty to boot

No problems type A

Rocky Mountain Climber /

I rode about 2,000 miles through the mountain ranges of the west, my 200 pounds, 150 pounds of camping gear, tools, water, etc. No problems whatsoever with Type A Dexron 111 Mercon in my Tomos 2-speed auto trans .. cluthes and gears still look like new after 10,000 miles. I can't see why anyone would post that tranny fluid can get on the back wheel (?)

Re: No problems type A

I use type F I believe, it was laying around from when we owned an old chevy that used the same stuff.

Re: No problems type A

If your looking for an oil that won't hurt your trans any of the above should be fine... I have type f and have around 8000 miles on it with no problems, still shifts perfect.

One of my friends uses like gear oil, 5w-30 and crisco or something... basically whatever he finds for free ;-) and it has worked fine as well.

Here's the best explanation I've seen for this question:
