Re: info on dixie moped?

i got this thing running within 20mins of bringing it home... after paying only $45 woot!

Re: info on dixie moped?

Its a re-badged motobecane. It would have said "Roadrunner" on the sides of the tanks. They re-badged Velosolex as well.

Re: info on dixie moped?

Exactly. It was a collaboration between Dixie International and Handybikes; modifying Motobecanes and Velosolexes to meet the new moped requirements and removing the original stickers and logos because they no longer had Motobecane's permission to sell their products (Motobecanes and Velosolexes). Here's a photo of a Motobecane Dixie International Roadrunner. Notice the frame mounted battery.

Re: info on dixie moped?

wow, great info!!!- are u restoring yours?

Re: info on dixie moped?

It's not mine...just a photo from my collection. I have a friend who is restoring a Velosolex Roadrunner. I just rebuilt the motor for him. I have attached a "before" photo.

Re: info on dixie moped?

I might as well post a couple of other photos I have here. This is a Roadrunner Velosolex crankcase. You can see how the SOLEX logo has been partially ground off.

Re: info on dixie moped?

Here is a homemade Roadrunner lighting coil, made bigger than the original and with two wires to power the lights and the horn.

Re: info on dixie moped?

dang, u know ur stuff.. i had no idea what i was getting myself into..until i got info from u guy's on here :D

Re: info on dixie moped?

Here is a Roadrunner Velosolex stator with the homemade coil mounted. The third wire is for a kill switch which was also part of the new requirements. Reflectors were added to the sides of the frame, and a label stating that the vehicle conforms to the regulations was also added to the frame, both necessary.

Re: info on dixie moped?

And this was the taillight that was usually used. It has a place to mount a license plate, and a light to illuminate the plate.
