Inside the flywheel?????

Alright inside the fly wheel (I don't know the name of that part)…...there is a wire that goes from one side over/under the bolt that the flywheel locks on to to the other side maybe 2-3 inches long. I believe it is the wire that sends the signal to the spark plug as to when to fire. I am having a problem with it fraying and grounding out. I have "fixed" it 4 times but tape, shrinkwrap tubes keep melting. What can I do to fix this? Is there something high heat resistant that I can wrap around it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
