my first moped! from a local farm here in SK, Canada.
(although it has a sticker on it from Ernie's Chainsaw Shop in Sussex, N.B.)
1978 puch maxi - 2hp engine, 3750 miles.
I paid $500. A little steep perhaps, but there seem to be next to none around these parts!
Broken throttle cable
Broken throttle grip
Throttle cable routed incorrectly
Broken petcock lever
Brake cable adjusters both broken at the levers
First off were the mirrors. Then I pulled the carb, disassembled and cleaned it up. I fixed the throttle cable _enough for now_ so that it works, by using an adjustable cable stop from my scooter and a bike cable I had from another project. I cut a slot into what's left of the petcock lever so I could at least turn it with a screwdriver to get it flowing.
After cleaning up all the dry grass, mud and hay, I put in a new spark plug and it fired right up. Reaches top speed with no trouble at all! I'm really surprised how fast this thing goes.
My first order is to replace the tires. I just blew the rear one this evening, so I gotta get on that! I've done some searching, but what are some recommendations?
I like the look and sound of the Michelin M62 Gazelle, but I don't know that it will fit? The tires currently on it are 2 - 17 Continentals.
Any other advice? I'm open to suggestions. I think I'm gonna keep this one pretty much stock, just de-restrict it as much as I can and fiddle with the jets.
I'll keep this one for my wife and start dreamin up a custom. :)
