Re: columbia? i don't much about them

solo engine. ehh, that may or may not be a lot of work, with NO parts available. cool engine design, though. and they are pretty light.

Re: columbia? i don't much about them

no parts at all? hmmm.... how are the engines? good power?

Re: columbia? i don't much about them

the solo engine looks pretty cool... gonna pick it up tomorrow i think... why the hell not, right?

Re: columbia? i don't much about them

id buy that right up

but then again i seen to like the peds you cant get parts for thats in good shape for $100

Re: columbia? i don't much about them

Get it. They are bullet proof. My first ped was a solo columbia, $25. It had been sitting under half a tarp for 13 years. Was parked cuz the points closed up. Flushed the tank a few times, gapped the points, and it started right up. I've done a few performance mods to it using the parts that are on it, and it will go 35 mph and go up hills like nothing else because of the CVT design. Just replace the belt, it felt like hell breaking loose when mine broke. When you need parts though, call BJ at handybikes, hes got lots of parts

Re: columbia? i don't much about them

hey taylor,

thanks for the info, i did buy, i've cleaned it up a bit, but it wont start and it feels difficult to peddle. there is spark and compression. i'm goona start woking on it again in the morning, but i was wondering where someone with experience on these would start?

I have all the experience that you need. Start with a new belt. You have to purchace a belt from a lawn mower store, like a True Value. The belt has to be 13mm wide and 35 inches long. Sounds strange that they would be mm and inches, but that's the way they sell them. Regular auto belts are too narrow and will just slip when trying to start it. Then I would dismantle the carb and clean it. If you have a digital camera, take a few pistures and I'll help fix it. Then I would take the clutch(variator) apart, clean it and put back together. The manual I sent you tells how to remove the belt. I would replace the muffler star nuts with allen head bolts, because you're going to want to clean out the muffler, so there isn't any restrictions.

Re: columbia? i don't much about them

great, thanks...

i'm going to go have at it and replace the belt, plug (which is the best plug?) right now the plug that's in it has a little pic of a guy on a moped on it, if never seen that before... also the spark looks weak, but present.

do i need a clutch puller to get the clutch apart, or just hand tools?

thanks

Jason, the spark plug is an NGK B5HS. On page 11 and 12 of the manual I sent you tells how to take the belt off. Once you get the belt off, remove the spring wire clips(page 23 of manual), then you'll need a 17mm box wrench to remove the nut, and then it slides right off. Be careful with the spring inside the variator, as they are impossible to get. Again, do you have a digital camera? Pictures of things will be very helpful in fixing things.

Re: columbia? i don't much about them

haven't got a chance to tear into it today 'cause i hurt my neck something fierce yesterday. but here's some photo's before i pull some things apart...

Re: columbia? i don't much about them

took a little look at the clutch when i was taking the belt off, saw that the needle bearings were destroyed, any ideas on a replacement? also, couldn't find a belt today, based on just the measurements, anyone know a reference # for one? i'll try some other places tomorrow.

P.S i'll move this thread to the repair section, sorry.....

Jay

Any bearing store will have it, or can get it.

Re: columbia? i don't much about them

what's the easiest way to remove it, i had it all apart, but it looks like i'll need something i don't have to separate the flanged bushing to get the bearing off. know an easy way?

attached is a photo of the bearing and the bushing i need to get off...
