My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

I couldn't help but shamelessly advertise the Foxi build I'm doing for my girlfriend. I'm actually having a trip doin' it. This would be even better if I had the before pic up here too.....I guess, just picture a shitted orange Foxi lying in your friend's yard for years.....that's what this looked like. I've been very, very lucky with my timing as there is this dude on Ebay selling every Foxi part I could possibly want right now. The headlight he sent me looks like it's brand new. I can't believe it. The powder coating I did myself...man did it come out great. It's a two stage powder coat with a 'Mirror Chrome' layer first, then high gloss red over. PEEP IT!

Holy Hell, thats powdercoat????? that shit is the nutz......must have foxi......

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

Great job duder!

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

Word, guys. Yeah, that's powder.

If you have 50.00 and a large enough oven, this is the way to go. I will never rattle can a bike again. Powder is not only cheaper but far, far faster and obviously, way more durable.

Oh...and look closely, the luggage rack? Yeah...not chrome...that's powder coat. Fork tubes? Those used to be brown....now mirror chrome powder. They will never rust. I'd like to do the front fender when I get it so it matches, but if it's clean enough I'll just go with the chrome.

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

that is beautiful

would you please post your methodology for cleaning, set up, and powder coating?

what is the interior dimensions of your oven. makes me think of checking out some of those free craigslist oven listings.

Holy Crap! Killer job. Love the color and powdered chrome.

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

Set up is pretty easy. We used a doorway with heavy gauge wire to suspend all the parts. We just had a large sheet of paper underneath to collect the overspray (which you sweep up and reuse). A Harbor Freight powder gun and a ceramic kiln (big...interior space is 44"L x 29"W x 28"H. So..it's big. We can do a lot of parts in one go.

Bake it to 400-450 for 15 minutes.

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

O00ghhhhhhhhh

I feel a little queezy.

Can you do me a favor and just keep that out of mass till i get the chance to go house on my wife's orange on? LOL

Looks great dude.

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

would baking the ped and parts damage anything?

Wow, really hot looking Foxi. Great color, nice that you have the furnace to bake that powder, wonder if its because of the clay? Laugh, that is going to be a kool bike, I'm sure your gf will love it.

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

Tom Rainwater /

I know why you have access to a furnace, but how are you blasting the surface. Who is doing that for you?

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

ggblubbbblubhmrmrngerrdler WOW

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

"blows load in pants" thats awesome!

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

i saw all those sparta parts on there too and thought about posting something on here but figured the sparta peeps know what they're lookin for, and how to find it.

awesome job on the powdercoat, gonna be a beauty!

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

That does look insane, Word for the wise. Don't "give" it to your girlfriend. If she leaves it would be a shame for the bike to go too, HAHA

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

Ya we know about all those parts...

so far dealing with that dude on ebay has been nothing to complain about.

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

Yeah....things are shaping up pretty well.

Andrew....sorry, many...but this thing will hopefully be running back in Mass in late July. I just got the front fender and bracket today along with the side covers. It's going to be pristine!

We'll definitely roll together when I get back.

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

Ben when you took off the rear wheel can you remember if there was a spacer on the left hand side?

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

Is that color _Electric Currentberry_? I got a gallon of that somewhere.

Looks good, man!

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

Andrew, the frame had no wheels, just an engine hanging by the pedal chain and the cables. Really decrepit. I actually wanted to thank you for directing me to that really nice 5041A on ebay that I bought in January. It's in really nice shape.

As far as the blasting goes, I did it all myself as well. We have the largest academic foundry here at San Jose State and a WALK IN sand blaster. We could do 8 bikes at once if we wanted! If I had someone loading the canister, I could probably blast a whole bike in 5 minutes. That thing is POWERFUL! We also have a smaller blaster in the ceramics area for doing little parts.

As far as the cooking goes....it doesn't hurt anything at all. You just have to be sure to get all the plastic bushings and rubber pieces off! I had two on the frame where the seat bolts in that I flat out overlooked. Had to recoat the seat post. Came out great though.

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

What size of sand are ya using? I'd think it'd be a bit pitted looking compared with hand sanding for a chromey gloss.

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

very nice

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

I think the sand is around a 40 or 50 mesh sand. It's actually pretty amazing how little it effects the surface of the metal. Plus, for powder coating, a little surface roughness is good because it makes the power stick really well.

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

Cool.

I have seen something baked on that was as mirror-like as any chrome, and came in any color, but that was for ceramics. I thought for that type of finish, you'd about to have it as smooth as glass first.

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

Oh yeah, Deezy...that's luster glaze. It's awesome....and VERY EXPENSIVE!!!!

Like....35.00 for a fluid ounce...or roughly enough to cover two headlights.

It also has to be fired very hot....around 1500 degrees (which is actually low temp for ceramics, but whatever..that shit's hot!).

You can get it in gold too. Looks like the real deal. The main company that made it, actually just went out of business. There are other manufacturers, but they suck in comparison.

Re: My Foxi build = awesome. Pics.

Yeah, maybe you should marry her first. Peace. Jerry.
