Puch Maxi 70cc kit ran well now does not

Connor Roger /

Hi,

Thanks in advance for the help. I recently kitted a 1977 puch maxi. Had everything working relatively well holding around 35-40 mph on flat ground and 25-30 mph up hills. Let the ped sit for about two hours and when I came back it started and idled fine but had no power underload. I had only run it two days since installing the kit.

- 70 cc airsal kit

- have not touched the lower end (crankshaft, seals, ect.)

-stock pipe with some porting done in the baffles

- 15 mm bing replica carb 217 atomizer, 89 jet (have tried a wide range of jets 89 seems best), needle clip second from top

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated the bike still starts and idles great just will not do much more than 10 mph on flat ground now.

Sounds like seals. E50 or ZA50

I had a bike with a similar situation. I upjeted to a 140 on a phbg…..then I finally gave in and replaced the seals.

Did you service the ignition, set points gap and set timing to specs? or did you leave that System untouched also Making for a dry flywheel cam that’s wearing the points follower down causing the points gap to close leaving poor retarded timed spark and no power

I forgot to mention timing and points gap in the original post. I set timing at 17 degrees before tdc. Points gap is set at .016.

Thanks
