Speeding Cops In Neighborhood Roads?

I just wanted to post a forum, because I havent for a while. I was walking in the neighborhood at about 2:00a.m. on July 14th, and I saw this car turns the corner from a 35mph road into my neighborhood. I thought that the car was a police car at first, but I thought to myself that no police car would screech into the a neighborhood without the sirens on. So I looked and saw the car go by me, and it was a po-po. He was doing about 40-45mph on a 25mph road. If I had crossed the road to get to my house, I would have been hit. I just thought that cops were supposed to follow the law, and not speed, because they pull over others for stupid stuff like that too. I didnt get his car number, because it was going to fast. No lights or sirens were on. Are they allowed to do that at 2a.m. in the morning?

Re: Speeding Cops In Neighborhood Roads?

Not defending the cop necessarily, but as a firefighter we respond to a lot of calls where the police are responding as well. We do have certain calls that require a "silent" approach, such as domestic calls, suicide attempts, or any time there may be an emergency that might be aggravated by the sudden noise and activity of lots of cars and trucks arriving with all the "bells and whistles".

Police almost always use the "silent" approach on burglary calls or suspicious people lurking about.

It MAY be that the cop you saw had used his light/sirens enroute to your neighborhood and shut them off when he got there but still has to hurry to the call.

hey veit your luck he didnt nail your for curfew violation, they are really starting to crack down that stuff for some odd reson. a friend of mine is doing 25 hours of cummunity servise for being out at 1 am with some friends, and another friend is doing the same ammount of time but they got pulled over in there car like 2 miles from there house heading home and they were out 30 min past curfew.

i dont know if curfew applys in fairfax but they enforce it alot in manassas where i used to live

Re: Speeding Cops In Neighborhood Roads?

That's certainly a possibility Paul. There are people who don't give a shit in every profession.

Re: Speeding Cops In Neighborhood Roads?

im not trying to make fun of cops or anything because i know SOME of them are very serious about the governmental position they hold. anyways, the other night i was out riding around 9, just after dark and i look in my mirror and i see a cop car coming up fast with the lighs on and siren as well. i pulled over, but happened to be at a stop sign anyways. the cop didnt even stop pulling out onto the main street of my little town he screatched the tires up the strip a little and took a hard right into the local dunkin donuts. ive always heard of this happening but ive never seen it, this cop screatched his tires through the parking lot, parked in a handicapped space and ran into dunks, no call, just hungy i suppose, i watched him come out with food a good 4 or 5 minutes later, i thought it was funny as hell, but i wasnt about to f*uck with anyones job so i ignored his car number hahah silly cop

Curfew?

Hi Chuck:

Curfew? That's got to be violating your rights in so many ways! Some of the small towns in the boonies here in Canada have been taken to court by their citizenry over curfews as it is age discrimination, and imposes limitations on your ability to move about freely and gather in groups, etc. Usually the challenges don't even make it to court --the town drops the bylaw immediately because they can't win.

I've always respected Americans for their insistance that their rights never be restricted in any way. I'm surprised an American town/city would even attempt to pass such an, in my opinion, unconstitutional law. Has this bylaw been challenged in Manassas?

Chris.

I think curfews are pretty common, especially in small towns.

i dunno if its been challanged, but in prince william county (manassas is in prince william) all persons under the age of 18 must be inside or outside with a reponsible adult (unless on there own property) by 11pm on sunday-thursday and 12am on friday and saturday.

i dont know if its been challanged in court but i know a bunch of my firends have been nailed for it, not me cuz i ran like any smart person would have

manassas isnt small at all, its pretty large, and its a county wide thing

Re: Curfew?

here where me and viet live we have no curfew. oh by the way Viet it was probably just one of my good ol' neighbor buddy cops down the street, you know them and their racing their bikes at 1 am and all. Also half the cops you see on our streets are off duty and probably live right down the street

Re: Curfew?

damn that sucks. which state?
