Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

I love that tyou have a pt

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

Yeah, but you have to drop the handle bars, and probably remove the front wheel.

This is the reason I sold my wagon and ended up getting another truck so I did not need to worry about height. I was considering a Honda element, but other desires for the functionality of the vehicle swayed me more toward the truck. Still went Honda with the Ridgeline. Spare me your opinions on the style of the truck. I have already made peace with it and have now started to appreciate it a lot. Ha!

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

Ridgeline is great for that purpose! Zero shame in that game, more people that think they need trucks to do the job of a compact car should buy a Ridgeline.

I bet the pt will fit it kinda laid over diagonal with the bars off. My Subaru outback (98, lil guy) it's easier to just lay it flat on it's side but I can take a wheel off and even get kids in the back seat

A tray style bike rack is my new jam for the easiest way to haul mopeds. If you plan on doing it a lot it's worth the investment and can go from car to car.

That last part.^^^^. I have a full sized truck and still use the rack because I have a cover over the bed. It is easier to use a rack then to take the cover off 9/10 times

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

I used to have a notchback 95 escort hauled more mopeds than any car I've ever owned besides the brat.

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

^You have a BRAT?!? OMG jealous!

I've always wanted one of those since it came out.

Never actually had one though.

Do you still have the jump seats?

This one was sold as a "cargo rack" and works great. Two bikes fit no problem at all, three fit if you don't mind scratches or get crazy with padding or whatever.

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

Graham,

Yeah the Ridgeline is that suv\truck crossover that no one really asked for. It has room for our dogs, and the thing that really sold me is the trunk. In the bed it has a locking hatch that opens up to a decent size cargo area that can also double as a ice chest, as it has a drain in the bottom. So I can load that up with gear and then put a bunch of stuff in the bed. I also grabbed a "bed extender" that definitely gives the length needed for a moped. 3 can fit easily without removing a thing.

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

Last time I got my samurai super stuck my friend pulled it out with his Ridgeline easy. It does all the truck stuff v nice

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

I put a Puch Newport in the back of my 1972 Pinto wagon. I had to remove the front wheel and handlebars, but otherwise it went in easily. I love the looks of the P/T Cruiser, and thought about getting one as a transportation car, but they are just too hard to work on.

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

I bought a brand new PT Cruiser in 2005. It was basically a Plymouth/Dodge Neon with a different body. As such, it was very underpowered. Pretty reliable though. Traded it in on a new truck in 2010. Never transported a ped in it. Not enough clearance without taking off the front wheel and handlebars.

Pinto wagon that's gold!

> ... but they are just too hard to work on.

Yes, before I got it, I heard this about them being hard to work on, but after I got it, I experienced it. Mechanics just hate these cars. I saw a video of someone actually taking off the front bumper to change the directional bulbs - another video showed this other fellow only removed the front wheels to do it (though when I did it, I just turned the steering wheel all the way to one side). They are a terribly designed car, mechanically. Plus the fuel economy is terrible (by my standards) 20mpg.

Great for versatility though, it has the wheelbase of a compact. The back seats fold up against the front seats, and there are five or six sets of strap hooks in the cabin; the back seats unlatch too, and they have a sturdy suitcase handle that I use when I yanked them out and schlepped them around. The front bucket seats are fantastic, it is like sitting in an easy chair, with armrests and everything. Great to drive.

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

i've owned and fixed on caravans but other than that i avoid anything mopar/daimlerchrystler/etc like the dang plague. in my experience all that stuff is just terrible, but i have a buddy who swears by neons.

yeah i have an 86 brat, its in the weeds now, hasn't been roadworthy in about 10 years, back in the hayday we drove it all over the midwest going to moped rallies. i think 2008-12 it was my daily driver.

its too far gone to save and i'm still pretty attached as far as scrapping it out, not sure what i'm going to do with it. was gonnna use it around the farm as a UTV but i haven't had time to dig into it.

You were correct. I slid the bars down, but by turning the front wheel after removing the right rear seat, it fits! Also the way the tire wedged in behind the front passenger seat made it stable. I had to slide the passenger seat forward to avoid the rear fender/taillight from impinging on the back hatch. I measured the back hatch opening - a good 38".

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

perfect! good to know. if one of the turbo ones ever came up for sale dumb cheap, i'd probably buy it just to thrash because, hey, turbo!

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

Glad you only had to do the handle bars. If I had extra money for a car I was considering the Lexus gx470 or the 460. They have huge cargo areas. I had also looked at an older model Land Rover discovery but that would have killed me on maintenance costs.

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

^ For the love of all that is decent and right don't buy a Land rover, biggest POS ever, I have a buddy that has sent his 3 daughters through college owning a shop that repairs them, and then repairs them again and again and again, they are junk from the first start at the factory. The Lexus is a much better choice, but super spendy as are the Land cruisers, but they at least run on the regular. Get a Tahoe or something for half the cost? Or a full size van, so much more affordable, except at the pump, but none of these vehicles are mileage masters. Even a dodge (shudder) mini van can haul as much, cheap and disposable to boot. Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

Yeah Stephen, the unreliability and even regular maintenance costs deterred me from the land Rover, I only considered it because it was low milage for its age, one owner, immaculate condition, and could haul a moped maybe two. But the shifty dealership and higher than bluebook pricetag definitely pushed me away from it. I also looked at a host of fullsize and mini vans. Toyota sienna mini vans are great cuz of their stow and go rear seats. And if you get one of the nicer models they have lots of power and gadgets.

Element ftw. Ultimate moped vehicle

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

I know. I was looking at elements real hard too. They were just a little too pricey for what they should be. Hard to find one less than 20yrs old under 200k for less than 10k. Also the one I went to look at the dealership was stupid and let me walk away without testing it. Cuz they had it parked behind 10 cars and didn't want to move them for me to test it. They were like, if you are commiting to buying it then we will move cars so you can actually test it.. I'm like.... Hard pass.

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

Element is big winner for sure, they're just way $$$ nowadays and your cat is probably already stolen

Love my 2009 Element. Bought it brand new. Over 225k miles on the clock now. I completely removed the rear seats so I can fit my Honda Navi (minus the mirrors) inside and my Snark on the rack.

I like that those could be had with a 6 speed manual 🤘🏼 It’s crazy riding in the back of one, you look down on the ppl up front

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

^ Did not know that about the manual trans? Never seen one. Just got myself another beater caravan for a 'ped hauler/garage, the engines on these are actually really decent, but everything else is pure chrysler garbage, but I bet I could stuff 4 peds in there, and can lift them in by myself. A running driving vehicle for 5 bills is pretty rare these days, not messed with it much yet, but if it proves more reliable than my last one may well sell off my 10.5 mpg getting f-250. This van has no rear seats, but has the bins where the stow and go seats I guess would have folded into from the second row, and I found a really sweet hvy duty tow chain in there! :)

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

If you want a reliable and practical vehicle, get a Toyota Sienna minivan. They are the ONLY minivan that does not have transmission issues. They can be a nightmare to work on, but fortunately they almost never need to be worked on. Pretty much any front wheel drive vehicle is going to be harder to work on compared to a rear wheel drive. My transportation car is a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis, and it has been rock solid reliable for 7 years. You can carry a moped on a hitch receiver carrier, but that's about the heaviest thing I'd want to put on one of those.

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

NGL sienna is my favorite minivan, at least of the last 20yrs.

Aerostar was pretty funny tho.

and the 90s pontiac dustbuster lolol

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

The dustbusters were kind of ok once you get past the "styling", plastic body so little rot!

Re: Will a Moped Fit into the Back of a PT Cruiser?

I am adding my appreciation for the Toyota sienna. Great minivan especially if you get a fully loaded one. A 15yr old fully loaded sienna with under 200k is about 5k which is a great price. Hauled a few mopeds in one to rallys before.
