Backfiring is usually too rich, or timing is way off - I am assuming this thing is stock, so maybe you broke the woodruff key and timing slipped, hard to say without more info though, what were the noises like?
Woodruff key may have broke and or the flywheel grenaded
Can you describe the noises in detail and the scenario that was occurring when it happened?
Thanks to advances in modern data sharing, he doesn't have to describe anything. Just take a clip and post it here.
New to the form as well as to the Tomos a35. Is there a governor on the stock carb ?
The "governor" on 2 strokes is normally found in exhaust pipe restrictions, some tomos are even super restricted on the exhaust port of the kit. Other bikes will be restricted by variator guards not allowing full variation to restrict speed. Easy ways to get around on a tomos is get another pipe; bi-turbo, Fuego and techno are easy first up grades for people new to mopeds, and of course up jetting the carb after. Increased air flow in or out needs increase in fuel
