Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

It’s Twins! As if my garage wasn’t cramped enough. But I had to bring these two babies home! I bought both these Free Spirits for one low price.

Neither is currently running, but should be with minimal effort. Both are 100% complete, stock, and unmolested. Even have all the side covers in excellent condition. I don’t know what’s up with the blue gas tanks, but whatever.

But my garage is so full I barely have room to work on anything. Something has got to give!

NO MORE MOPEDS!

Re: Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

daan SJAARLOOS /

12 step moped program for you.

Re: Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

That is one hell of a great score, I have also sworn off more mopeds, but would grab a free spirit if I found a decent one, it's a sickness I tell you....

Re: Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

He should start collecting Motrons

One Motron is enough. Or maybe…

One Motron is [never] enough.

I love Free Spirits. Such well built bikes. I think they are the best step through out there. And now I have four of them. But I don’t have a problem; I can quit any time.

Re: Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

I wish I had a za50 cut for a Polini laying around. I would love a two speed Free Spirit.

So much this. What the maxi should have been.

Re: Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

^ Yep.

Re: Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

After many years of thinking they were ugly, I've finally decided I need to own one.

Gotta thin the herd a bit this summer, make room.

Once you ride one you'll know their true greatness

Re: Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

Do all those mopeds transform into 1 huge robot? Or a giant moped?

That's what I'm building now. Not polini though. Lol (edited)

Truth. They are just solid and tight. They feel like a motorcycle, not a cheap, flimsy moped. Comfortable to ride, too. And they’re not THAT ugly. I kinda like the way they look

Re: Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

I had some time to spend on these today. Cleaned the carbs, cleaned & gapped points, and checked timing. Installed new plugs, fuel filter& line, a throttle cable on one & a brake cable on the other. I checked the tranny fluid, adjusted the brakes, aired up the rotten tires and dumped in some fresh premix. They both fired right up, ran and idled perfect. Took em for a spin (one at a time, if you were wondering) and they both pegged the speedos.

No challenges here, but ya gotta love a minty, easy runner. X2.

Not bad for $250 each.

Re: Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

Sounds like a good day!

Re: Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

That's awesome!!! They both 14mm bing??

Re: Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

Yes. Great day. I even had time to mow the lawn and weedeat this afternoon.

Yes, both 14 Bings. These bikes are virtual twins, although serial numbers aren’t close, and one has 600 miles while the other has 1700.

Re: Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

start hanging them from the rafters

I usually have one on the hoist hanging from my rafters. And a couple hung on the walls. Hell, I got them stacked two deep on top of each other. It’s tough fitting 19 bikes in a one car garage. But it’s possible. Organized and accessible too!

Re: Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

I’ve got these beauties finished. Time to turn them loose!

New tires, tubes, cables. Swapped tanks. New crank seals & intake/exhaust gaskets. Greased bearings. Cleaned & lubed chains. Cleaned exhausts. Tuned the 14 Bings with 222 atomizers, 72 jets, and metal mesh filters. Tuned clutches with super stiffy kickstart springs. I tried both blue & kickstart springs. Tried the blue springs 1, 2, & 3 turns in from flush. Tried the kickstart springs flush, 1 & 2 turns in from flush. Compared back to back tuning runs on each bike. On the hills around here, I settled on the kickstart springs turned in flush. Slips to 20 mph, with plenty of torque to gain speed uphill. It is so nice having identical bikes to compare tuning runs immediately. I haven’t gps’d top speed, but they easily pin the speedos and keep going. But I back out because I don’t want to break the 30 mph speedometers.

Re: Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

Very nice! Can you actually damage a Speedo by going too fast? I've got a few bikes that run in the 50s with stock Speedos... I guess they are ok.

Re: Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

i have not broken my speedo going faster then 30mph.

Re: Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

Good to know, I thought I heard they’d bust, but who knows. I’m probably retaining garbage info. Time to defrag the brain & reboot. Happens when you have too many mopeds/irons in the fire.

Re: Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

I will tell you one thing, if the speedo drive locks up and wraps the cable into the front wheel you will definitely eat shit. I saw it happen right in front of me at a rally and dude got messed up. I usually disconnect them on my faster bikes.

Re: Double Trouble. The Ark is Full.

Nice garage full!
