Re: whats in ur travel tool kit?

NGL, i been wanting this:

https://www.harborfreight.com/locking-flex-head-ratchet-and-bit-set-35-pc-58074.html

'

I'm not a huge HF fan, but Icon stuff seems solid, quite capable and very small. perfect moped toolbag accessory. And I dunno if this is a knockoff of something else but man, it makes for a pretty comprehensive tool in a small package:

you can use the bits as a screwdriver in the handle, and even use the extension piece as a T handle driver. you could carry a few key sockets with the 1/4 drive, and probably get away with a 1/4 to 3/8 for a plug socket. It'd be a pretty tidy piece of kit. I mean you dont need all the bits, but a a few sizes of flat and phillips and the 4,5,6 of allens and the 1/4 driver. lotta problems solved.

Re: whats in ur travel tool kit?

i mean most of hf stuff is shit and breaks but there are a few things they sell that are decent. that could be a decent option.

i just found these while doing some ebaying. gonna try em out as part of my kit

HF says compare it to this: https://www.ultimategarage.com/shop/part.php?products_id=7916

so i assume thats what it is knocking off.

Re: whats in ur travel tool kit?

Usually something like this for longer trips, for short trips just the Leatherman.

Re: whats in ur travel tool kit?

Take that tape and make a small camping roll! I can't imagine carrying the whole roll, you can just wrap it on itself or around a pencil or whatever other small thing and save a ton of space!

Re: whats in ur travel tool kit?

I usually (if I can remember) take a chainsaw tool and some electrical tape/sandpaper

Re: whats in ur travel tool kit?

Why does that original tool kit look worse quality than the HF version? And it costs almost $100 more than the HF one?!

Re: whats in ur travel tool kit?

I used the shit out of this during bakers last year. Currently in my tool roll:

-Sockets 8-14 and a small extension

-8,10,12mm wrenches

-couple plugs

- timing tool

-screwdriver set

-plug wrench

-spanner

-hemostats

-needle nose

-mini wire cutters

-slip joints

-5mm allen

-derbi specific flywheel puller

-random hardware

-jets and knarp

-small file

-sharpie and extra 10mm

Thinking I'm gonna add some lock wire, band-aids, xtra masterlink, and a pre-roll

Re: whats in ur travel tool kit?

I'm thinking a hemostat is an excellent add to the crap I carry around, thanks for the idea! Great for clamping fuel oil lines, or smoking the fattie...

Re: whats in ur travel tool kit?

They definitely com in handy. Also great for putting washers on studs.

Re: whats in ur travel tool kit?

That little harbor freight kit is really neat. It's way smaller than you think and there's still probably room for a couple sockets inside the case. I've had very good luck with the icon branded stuff. Seems pretty decent quality for the price.

Re: whats in ur travel tool kit?

Umm washers on studs are easy with the M5 Allen wrench you should have in your city already. But I do like the idea of hemostats. The only ones I have are angled at the top and are more for smoking phatties. Ha!

I have no idea why i've never thought of that. Fuck.

Re: whats in ur travel tool kit?

ok back from the dead here's what i ended up with...

small format travel toolkit, great for most things moped. weighs 3.5lbs.

A001161D-AB88-42EF-A43D-C36ED1192376.jpeg
139ED78F-5694-472D-B074-A860D3CD3B91.jpeg

leatherman micra

eklind allen and screwdriver set

streamlight usb penlight

3/8 drive mini gearless ratchet

long sockets and adaptor

the mini t-bar toolkit i posted earlier

10+11 wrench

weld tip cleaners (carb cleaners)

mini husky piston stop (not shown)

my fav is the adjustable "bike" wrench (small yet you could tighten a vario nut with it!, and even use it like a spanner for tightening pedals)

Re: whats in ur travel tool kit?

and here is a second kit that is smaller and cheaper, i keep it in my tomos under the seat. good for tightening basic shit and cleaning carbs.

AE76D9BD-EE8D-4388-8709-510DCC14BD5F.jpeg

two bike wrenches

10-11 wrench

folding allen and screwdrivers

weld tip cleaners

cheapo AAA penlight

only thing i havent found for this is a rlly small spark plug wrench.

thanks again for all the suggestions

I can attest that this was used for everything we needed at the Daggers rally; from swapping front wheels to removing pedals. Extremely useful and tiny form factor

Re: whats in ur travel tool kit?

Usually just a small ratchet, plug socket, new plug and a small flathead screwdriver.

I have an extra external condenser hooked up on most of my bikes, ready to connect if the internal one fails, and on my V1'S, an extra ground lead from the blue wire I can plug in if my brake light blows.

Re: whats in ur travel tool kit?

some tools of course, but i didn't see anyone mention bailing wire. i keep like 5 feet of aluminum wire on me. mainly for broken exhaust stuff but it can do all kinds of shit. i also like to keep a couple throttle cable knarps, and probably a master chain link.
