OEM VESPA CRANK Bushing to Needle Bearing Conversion

Everything started with stock bravo 12mm pin crankshaft.

So I pressed out bushing from connecting rod,

and with bushing pressed out hole in con rod was 14mm,

hole needed a little bit of sanding as surface was not very good for bearing

but a bit of sanding paper figured it out.

I was worried about con rod hardness but i can say it is as hard as others made

to work with needle bearings.

So finally it was ok but crank pin now is 10mm as I used 10mm bearing.

Also can someone recommend me good crankshaft for my bravo (for 75cc kit) going to turn some high rpm and don't want to snap it.

I was looking in to ATHENA and MAZZUCCHELLI cranks, which is better?

Thanks.

I have both. I actually like the Athena better. Idk the patch duration difference off hand. I was shocked how nice the Athena was. Mazzi is super nice too. Can’t go wrong either way really.

Search for a 30mm bearing otherwise?

I second the recommendation for Mazzucchelli cranks, they are indeed super nice. I've never used the athena, I'm happily surprised to hear it's good considering some of their kits I've seen!

So this would "work" in the sense that it would fit , but outside of hardness, it's a question if tolerance.

I'd rather grab a euro 10pin oem crank or cheap aftermarket before I risked a kit with this.

Re: OEM VESPA CRANK Bushing to Needle Bearing Conversion

Ya Brian is was super polished. On the DOS website, the con rod definitely looks like it has been semi knife edged and polished. When I got the crank box I was shocked. Nicest crank I have seen in a while. Everything was polished and it even had a cute Athena stamp on the con rod. Thought I had a picture but I must have lost it when I broke my phone. 10/10 would buy again. It looks like it is anticipato but I did not measure or compare to the mazzy. I think you can’t go wrong with either.
