Help identify this 1962 moped

Laura Brandon /

I recently bought a moped from auction, year 1962 with a Minarelli engine, imported from Italy into Australia in 2018.

I'm trying to identify the make and model of the bike however it's proving difficult as it seems many Italian manufacturers made mopeds in the 60's and they all look similar. Can't find any indications on the frame (is there a specific area to look?).

What I know so far:

- Minarelli (P3?) engine

- G.D.F seat

- Vetta switch and front light

- Aprilia tail light

- Dellorto carburettor.

The auction listing mentioned Rovigo Kijiji. I couldn't find anything about Rovigo other than it's a town in Italy, and Kijiji is an Italian/Canadian auction site.

Also, I have the chassis number but not sure where to look it up, any ideas? Australia vin/chassis lookup returns a trailer lol. (edited)

Re: Help identify this 1962 moped

It's a Cimatti.

Cool bike...

Oh wow! It looks like this is it! Cimatti Anni (60?). Thanks so much!

Okay so upon further inspection I seem to be wrong in guessing Anni 60... there are some slight differences. Do you know what Cimatti model this?

Re: Help identify this 1962 moped

Some parts may have been changed over the years. Cimatti used the same fenders and tank, and similar frames.

The rear rack design is similar to a Cimatti, but I can't tell exactly from the photo angle.

The name may be hiding under the paint on the tank.

They also changed year to year, some of the "Anni 60's" are different. (And "Anni" just means "year" in Italian. ) It would just be a "Cimatti 50."

There is also a "vivi" made by viberti that looks close. And Testi looks similar, too.

Many Italian makers used parts from other brands, or even different parts within the same brand, due to availability.

So, it may not be a Cimatti, but that's the closest I can find.

Looks a lot like this Cimatti.

That's what I thought, too, but the rear rack has angled tubes behind the seat.

Probably slightly changed & re-badged for export to Australia.
