2001 Honda Elite S (SA50) Start

So I have a 2001 Honda Elite S (SA50) that I drove when I was young. Its been sitting in storage for 15 years now and would like to give to my son. What all do I have to do with it to get it started and which parts need replacing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This all the way! Maybe replace the dry, dry, DRY and probably cracked fuel line. Also check the tires and check/adjust the brakes. Gonna have precious cargo in the near future. Check around for a service manual, digital or otherwise.

WRONG FORUM FUCKFACE! With that out of the way I'd clean the carb, replace the fuel lines and maybe a fresh plug. If it ran when you parked it it should run again. Fresh pair of tires won't hurt and make sure the brakes and lights work well. (edited)

Also replace the vacuum petcock fuel line and vacuum line. Those little diaphragms will dry up and either won’t work or give a low pulse, starving it for fuel.

Yes it’s a scooter but at least it’s a 2 stroke. One that you should be jealous of. Awesome bike with any aftermarket or factory part still available. You’ve got yourself a gold nugget there.

I would, inspect, and if needed clean and gap the plug, if it's really shitty replace it. look over the fuel and oil lines, if the oil line needs replacing, you may need to bleed the system, not 100% on this, but if you have to you must. a little fogging oil in cyl and she should go, it's a Honda after all, these are awesome bikes! Get it registered, and consider yourself fortunate if it is titled in WI, they are kinda a pita re: titles. Vacuum petcock may need replacing, I would not get into the carb unless it will not run/hold an idle, look in the air-box for bugs etc, clean replace filter if it looks bad, and poke something up the exhaust to see it is clear. NEW battery. AGM if possible. If your kid is not into it and you don't want to ride it, contact myself or Randy, we will arm wrestle for the chance to buy it! :) Best of luck getting her going, prob not as hard as you may think! If there is any gas in it dump it and replace with fresh. (edited)

Yes that is a very desirable elite. Has the good motor that can be heavily modified. My bud was a malosi dealer and has a bunch of nice big bore cylinder kits, pipes, and all kinds of stuff for that model. He currently runs a 125cc stroker kit on his and it's super scary. Thing does 0-60 very fast. Does feel like you are riding on a toilet but still fun

Drain the gas, download a manual, take the carb apart and clean it really well with carb cleaner and blow compressed air through all the jets and openings. After that long sitting its probably gunked up. If you don’t have a compressor a cheap can of keyboard spray works. May as well replace the plug to. Get a battery charger and multi meter to check it with. Only put ethanol free back in it. Do this with your son its a great experience. I’ve rebuilt a couple thing with mine and we both have learned a lot. I would think it will crank right up after that given your not having to figure out what someone else did to it. Looks brand new!
