Vin

Alex Armstrong /

I have a tomos targa top tank I acquired thru an older guy in his 70s, been sitting in his garage for years, pure dust, he repainted it years back and the only vin left that I can see is on the frame on the right side there are 6 digit numbers but that's all I have, I really wanna get this registered so I can start building it up, anything I can do?

Do you need to show the actual vin to register?

Re: Vin

Post some photos of the bike and we can probably help narrow it down. The good news is that the six digits you have are the unique numbers to your bike. You just need to find out the other numbers which will be the same on other bikes of the same year/model and color.

If I could figure out the other numbers that would be amazing

Pretty simple , really . The other 11 #s are all zeros . Place them in front of what numbers you have .

Adding the 11 zeros would really work?

It has in the past .

Are you sure he didn't just paint over the VIN plate that's on the right side of the bike, below the seat? Look for a small rectangular protrusion below the paint

Re: Vin

Should be a stamped number up behind the headlight on the steering tube

ZZ1A65123YK ......

From a 2000 targa. Which yours should be really close to

Re: Vin

The first part is ZZ1A for sure, the next part is the model, "62" i believe for a LX pedal start 1996-2002, followed by "12". The the next number I'm not sure about, and after that is letter/number code for the year, then "K", followed by the six unique digits of your vin.

Now I'm just wondering if that vin number for the model would be a 62 or 65 for the model year? No one of guessing what year my bike is just by looks?

97-04?

Re: Vin

Those wheels and the big turn signals would make me guess that it's probably not newer than 1999.
