Jawa shifty motor

Just picked this up out of the local craigslist for 100 bucks.

Looks like a mustang or earlier (pionyr?)

Any jawa wizards know how to date it?

50cc, three speed. Has compression, I think it's all there, with a Sha 14/14.

Could probably bolt it to a bench and fire it up.

Might put it on the Sachs G3 frame, might not.

Re: Jawa shifty motor

Cooooool I love those almond cased Jawas

Re: Jawa shifty motor

Pretty sure it's an old timey one. It doesn't have the mag cover in the case like the mustangs, and from my interneting, it looks mid 60's or earlier.

And it's got a big ass exhaust port.

Re: Jawa shifty motor

The guy who runs this facebook page will probably know.

Re: Jawa shifty motor

Looks like a good match to the mid 60's 05a pionyr.

Re: Jawa shifty motor

Thanks Bas. I hit him up, he said it's a jawa 05. Dates early to mid 60s. Used on the pionyr scooter.

3hp, 40mph. That's stock, with a little carb and crap pipe. On a big heavy scooter.

I can squeeze more out of it. If I figure out what to put it on...

Re: Jawa shifty motor

Fits right into the Sachs G3 frame. Both rear mounts line up, nice cut out for the tear drop.

Frame mounts are wider spaced, but that's cool to get the chain lined up.

Easy to make a top front mount, lengthen the shifter arm...

Chain drive is on the right side, though. Shouldn't be a problem to run a hub backwards.

So far, looks like a a fun time in the garage, added to my other pile of projects.

Gotta crack the motor open and see what madness lies inside... (edited)

Re: Jawa shifty motor

So...

I don't think it's gonna start right up...

I think I can save it. But the points are broken.

Re: Jawa shifty motor

I hate when that^ happens .

Probably looks worse than it is .

Re: Jawa shifty motor

Time for an HPI. I dunno how you find this stuff but that motor definitely ended up in the right hands, can't wait to see what you do with it.

Re: Jawa shifty motor

It was in my local craigslist, and about five miles away. Seller didn't even know what it was, he bought it in the 80's for ten bucks to put it in his mini bike, then his mini bike got thrown away by his dad, and he's had it ever since.

Cool weird stuff has a way of finding me.

Yeah, and you were no help. ;)

Just kidding.

I contacted jawa parts and they don't ship to USA.

All I need is two clutch discs and the complete ignition stator (with coils, points, condenser, and cam wiper) and I'd have this thing running.

Re: Jawa shifty motor

Does https://www.jawashop.com/ have anything for you?

Re: Jawa shifty motor

Jawashop does ship to the USA, but it will take quite a while (like 2 months) unless you pay for fancy fast shipping.

Thanks for the link. They have everything I need.

Tried to order but it won't accept my payment for some reason. Gotta figure that out...

Re: Jawa shifty motor

I just ordered a Saab exhaust from the UK and had the credit card denied. It's just extra security to prevent fraud. Call them, authorize, done. The Jawa shop is great. I've ordered several times. Shipping costs a bit and it takes time, but all is well. Prices are good too. Good luck on that shifty Jawa.

Re: Jawa shifty motor

Ooo what kinda Saab frank? Hope ur gonna say a two stroke...but regardless, all saabs are neat.

I got to drive a sonett III that had a Monte Carlo 2t engine swapped in place of the 4t taunus v4. Apparently they changed almost nothing so a two stroke bolts right up! The freewheel weirded me out... Soo much fun....a 2t 96 is my dream car

Re: Jawa shifty motor

I owned a V4 model 95 wagon for a short while. No two strokes. I have owned various turbo 900 models since 1983. I know them well and take care of all thier maintenance. I've owned a 1990 SPG since new, added a 93 Aero V6 convertible in 06. Bought another 900 turbo vert in 13. Just pulled it out of storage, checked it over and adding a turbo back sport exhaust. Eliminating the cat, shhh. Till further notice it will be frolicking on the gulf coast of Florida with its PA state inspection and emissions exempt antique plate. Gotta tweak up the APC module a bit. Heading south in a few weeks. Mopeds to ride and tiki bars to visit too.

Sorry for the thread hijack...
