77cc VARIATED MOBY IT'S HAPPENING

Christophe Naulet /

Working on a single variated 77cc Malossi MHR 77cc setup.

I promise it's not built in France by my teacher and secret variated moped guru who over 10 years ago built my first Bidalot 50cc H2o Pegueot engine block, or in SoCal by my good friend the Puch guru who once built me a Puch E50 case inducted bottom end with Minarelli Horizontal bolt pattern...

And I'm using used scooter parts. Not an expensive $400 Stage6 70cc brand new kit, but I did spend in some custom made and expensive 17mm clutch pulleys.

All done in house, I promise...

See you at the Apple Valley Speedway in Southern California, October 2021.

Re: 77cc VARIATED MOBY IT'S HAPPENING

does that have the modular head? if not it's the MHR replica not the team and is slightly less aggressive. The replica is rated at 19-21 not 26 hp. I ran the AM6 version of the 50mm MHR team on my old sm.

also didn't you very publicly swear off of moped army? (edited)

Re: 77cc VARIATED MOBY IT'S HAPPENING

That is the question... :)

I'm gonna dial the engine for track not drag racing, but on paper it should, announced at 25hp by Malossi, paired up with a variator, launch lever and clutch pulley, you would think it'd be hard for a one speed E50 wet clutch to match the launching power, but who knows... some of those Austrian "sprinters" quick off the line and get up to top speed pretty fast.

I think they're technically 2 complete different categories though. Variated vs One speed wouldn't be a fair race. But whatever, a race is a race and always fun for people to watch. Quien es el mass macho?! LOL

Re: 77cc VARIATED MOBY IT'S HAPPENING

Mob vintage dyno'd a couple of hybrid bikes a few weeks back. They look fun.

Re: 77cc VARIATED MOBY IT'S HAPPENING

Yeah it is the modular head version. But whatever HP comes out of this beast it's gonna plenty for a Motobecane moped frame with lots of challenges and stress on the other parts surrounding the engine block.

My goal is always to find the right balance between power and reliability. So I've always de-tuned my personal H2o 50cc track engines on purpose. Never seized or broke one as far as I remember.

Same method will apply to this build, make it fast and torquy, but no need to push it to the extreme and find its limits.

Can't remember last time I posted here, but yeah it's been years and years since I signed off. "have a good life... see ya" or something like that :)

Totally normal JBOT /

Covid changed everything.

All beefs are squashed.

Christophe is making big cc scooters

2021 will be wide fucking open.

Gonna throw a CBR300RR onto my moby.

Re: 77cc VARIATED MOBY IT'S HAPPENING

you’ve got it all wrong. it’s all about not casematching, using unmodified kits, small carbs & stock-style air boxes.

Love that when it happens!

45mph really slaps

Re: 77cc VARIATED MOBY IT'S HAPPENING

Hepatitis J [OFMC] /

45mph is literally the perfect speed for a moped. If you want to go 72mph just get a Honda rebel. At least then you'd look cool and not like some fully-tucked loser.

Re: 77cc VARIATED MOBY IT'S HAPPENING

My moby hits 50mph 3/4 throttle with me sitting up right easily. Pulls power wheelies and is not tuned in that great or ported.

I'll actually second that

Re: 77cc VARIATED MOBY IT'S HAPPENING

so it is settled, 45mph is as fast as a moped should go.
