As I stand in a pile of carb cleaner cans, I get called Dady Warbucks caus a blew a pile of cans of carb cleaner to get these slugged up cases clean. I wonder how many people half ass cleaning the cases. Always see pics of media blasted cases looking new. I started to wonder about how many people just knocking the dust off and start throwing shit together. I would rather spend a shit ton on cleaner then throw it together.....idk just made me go hummmm

10 out of 12 cans 1 tooth brush later....8 years of blown clutches removed

Re: Clean classes on a rebuild, a moped flex?!?

I am the one. I said it. Over here spraying that shit like it's free money!!

They look great and the effort was worth it.

I low key broke 2 dishwashers cleaning engines. Spray tower gets sludged up and won't retract. Then the poor drainage issues start.

A quart of solvent would have been sufficient.

Re: Clean classes on a rebuild, a moped flex?!?

A roll of paper towels to scoop out the sludge, a scraper for the hard crust, and two cans of 99 cent store engine cleaner woulda done that job.

I'm surprised one toothbrush lasted against all that carb cleaner.

Seriously, 99 cent store is your friend.

They have plastic oil pans, a two pack of plastic brushes, one stainless and the other is brass, imitation gunk engine cleaner, red rags and microfiber towels, oven cleaner...

For the price of two cans of carb cleaner you can get enough cheap disposable crap to clean five motors.

Great job, though. Not knocking your work, just your method.

Re: Clean classes on a rebuild, a moped flex?!?

Diesel or kerosene is the best cheap cleaner. I always clean and engine before I put it back together, I would say it’s a requirement of any rebuild and not a flex. Painting/powder coating cases is the true flex. Painting it after you assemble it is the maximum flex, masking off all the flanges obviously.

Tweaker trash /

Yea a face shield,5 gal bucket,& power washer work wonders!

$60 Redsun benchtop parts washer and 3 gallons of mineral spirits is the best moped related tool investment I've ever made

Re: Clean classes on a rebuild, a moped flex?!?

I use old gas and a brush, the last final rinse is brake cleaner.

Re: Clean classes on a rebuild, a moped flex?!?

Some soapy water, a brush and a screwdriver will usually work. Maybe a bit of carb cleaner for the inside.

Quarter car wash . The best thing since the invention of dirt . ;)

I seal my cases with wheat paste

Re: Clean classes on a rebuild, a moped flex?!?

media blasting with something soft like walnut shell or glass bead, but only after masking off sealing surfaces & bearing surfaces.

as far as powder coating cases goes, it’s something to do, that’s for sure. it does help keeping them clean, which he’s an make diagnosis of leaking gaskets or other failures much easier, but that being said i probably wouldn’t bother.

Re: Clean classes on a rebuild, a moped flex?!?

Who has money for all that carb cleaner. Brake parts cleaner is cheaper and works amazing.

Re: Clean classes on a rebuild, a moped flex?!?

Daddy Warbucks over here 🤣

Shit is cheep Walmart stuff like 97¢ a can or something.

Shit was caked on. Blue dawn and a scrub brush barely put a dent.

It is 100% requirement to build the motor correctly you need clean cases.

I would drop $12 bucks every time to have super clean cases. But that 6$ a can stuff....Na would never.

My Moped has a gluten intolerance

There is some mineral spirits based stuff I buy from tractor supply that works great in my parts washer. Not a fan of the spray cans... Even a 5gal dunk bucket is way better.

I did the diesel thing exactly once, came inside the house late at night and my wife woke up, make me take a shower like aw hell no. Didn't even get it on myself just the fumes. Mineral spirits way mo betta for my marriage.

Re: Clean classes on a rebuild, a moped flex?!?

Tellin' ya , quarter wash solves all yer problems . ;)

Re: Clean classes on a rebuild, a moped flex?!?

I use sticks and stones.

Re: Clean classes on a rebuild, a moped flex?!?

I would call this build a flex

Re: Clean classes on a rebuild, a moped flex?!?

This was a flex build... But then I roff-ed with a 21 front sprocket. Pressure washer does wonders, just don't shoot the case down the driveway.

I've become a big fan of my ultrasonic cleaner. It's slow but super easy. These cases were super gross before I tossed them in for 20 minutes: https://www.instagram.com/p/CLyFSsAHnhK/ (edited)

Re: Clean classes on a rebuild, a moped flex?!?

You can see where I went "eff this" after a couple of hours in evaporust, and a lotta scrubbing with brake cleaner and a toothbrush:

What do you have? Harbor freight special?

Re: Clean classes on a rebuild, a moped flex?!?

take those cases to the .25 cent car wash bay.

what were you thinking?

10 cans of carb cleaner at $4.00 a can?

🤷🏼‍♂️ It was like 12 bucks of carb cleaner.

....probably do it again too. Hahah. I have a power washer and did not like using it because the cases would move around too much or blast me in the face cleaning the insides. Maybe if I attach the cases to a 2x4 or something.

Damn those are some clean motor builds. The black e50 is awesome and the black stripe on the ZA is a nice touch.

Everyone raves about the ultrasonic. I have not liked the ones I have used. I felt like I still had to clean the parts a decent amount even after a few cycles (edited)

I usually put them in a milk crate that's just chilling on the concrete.

God I forgot how much cleanup is needed on these old Pollini kits... got it all buttoned up and realized I did not align the hole on the center of the piston to the intake patch....oh well it is like 1mm off.

I’m not Moped Factory 🏭 but I tried. It is a little better then that when I put it on. That is the only pic I had because I sent it to a friend.....

And done. Fired right up. Run good. I forgot how fast these kits are. Kinda impressed me. Got some mild jetting to do but overall it good. Could run for 5 miles or years from.....I don’t have much trust in these old Pollini kits.
