1963 Batavus Bilonet Super Sport

Found another unicorn. (Sorry, no pedals.)

Has spark and compression, and some really stinky gas in a clean tank. And new tires.

"Ran when parked" a year ago.

JLO 50cc three speed motor.

Hopefully I can get it fired up tomorrow.

All it needs is a taillight lens, and a tool box door.

And yeah, of course I'm gonna leave the patina.

Nice.

At the time of manufacture a calculator cost over a hundred dollars. Fun fact enjoy...

That's good to know. Might need a gasket kit or some clutch discs. The rest of the internet looks pretty bone dry for parts (except for all that broken and smashed shit Jeremy pointed out.)

anyone who ever bad mouthed a batavus should see this

Re: 1963 Batavus Bilonet Super Sport

Here's something else kinda funny. This is the same exact bike, found on Google images, from a post on Sheldon's EMU vintage motorcycle website, from 2017.

It even has the crappy black handled screwdriver sticking out of the tool kit.

Re: 1963 Batavus Bilonet Super Sport

Nice score, a real Batavus moped!

Gaskets, clutch discs and miscellaneous parts can be bought here

These guysalso seem to have a lot of parts, just a shoddy website.

These engines were made with pedals, so if you really want to please all the pedalphiles you could.

Most websites are in Dutch and are run by old people who don't necessarily speak English, so if you need any help just PM me.

Re: 1963 Batavus Bilonet Super Sport

That whip be sick af

Re: 1963 Batavus Bilonet Super Sport

Cool, thanks for the info.

From what I've found on the web, (which isn't much,) these were never imported to the US, and the kickstart 3 speed was a dealer option. Almost every one on Google images has pedals.

And the high pipe seems to be really rare, also. Only found one other.

Gonna go over it today, drain the old gas, etc, and hopefully ride it.

And do a WD 40 wipedown to get the bird shit and crust off of it.

Re: 1963 Batavus Bilonet Super Sport

The short story of how I found this. I drove 40 miles to get this little italjet 50 for $100 from offer up.

I wanted it for the engine, a Minarelli G1, kickstart 50cc. You can swap the top end on these with P4s and P6s, and make a screaming 70 or 80cc little monster out of it.

IMG_20210222_071020.jpg

We start talking mopeds, and the guy pulls back a tarp and says, "I got this for sale, too."

After crapping my pants, he told me the price, I said that's too much, he said, I said, he said "what about both for x amount of a dollars and I'll deliver it?"

And I said, "sold. See ya at my house."

Then I stopped at the Hat and got a pastrami sandwich and waited for it to show up.

I'm not gonna disclose what I paid, but it was less than I sold the scorpion for, so it was a bargain. And unlike the Ducati Piuma or my custom Testi Grand Prix, I don't have to spend a ton on parts, and months on labor.

And that's the end of my tale of hunting unicorns.

Re: 1963 Batavus Bilonet Super Sport

Well that minarelli is pretty sick too!

Re: 1963 Batavus Bilonet Super Sport

Is the speedo in kmh om mph? It might be a model for British export, this one wasn't made for the Dutch market.

Those exhausts are quite rare, but i've seen them pop up for sale at local moped swap meets.

If i'm not mistaken these engines have the "pianosnaar" belt in it (on the right side) , you might want to check if that's still okay before starting it.

Well you went out hunting for rabbit got a bear and a deer..

Me I find hamsters and ground hogs while looking for rabbit.

Re: 1963 Batavus Bilonet Super Sport

There's no belt under the covers. Is it inside the case?

Clutch looks great. Magneto looks good.

Oh, and I already started it and rode it around the block.

Re: 1963 Batavus Bilonet Super Sport

Speedo is mph. Also missing the correct headlight. Should be a weird shape to fit in the weird bucket.

And here's a video of it running:

Re: 1963 Batavus Bilonet Super Sport

I don't think I've ever seen a kickstart version like that, but it's good you don't have the one with the belt, those things are costly to replace.

I just checked Marktplaats to see if they had a correct cover and taillight but didn't see the correct ones. The 63 supersport model isn't the most common because the Whippet was also being sold at that time.

Great to see one being brought back to life!

Things I need:

Front wheel lock

IMG_20210222_163511.jpg

Odd shaped headlight

IMG_20210222_121059.jpg

Rear taillight. This one is wrong. It shouldn't be SAE.

IMG_20210221_191615.jpg

There's also a lock inside the handlebars for a throttle lock I'm guessing, but I don't have a pic.

Re: 1963 Batavus Bilonet Super Sport

Wow that's awesome, what a find!

The jlo engines are pretty common on the older snowmobiles but I haven't seen a motorcycle/moped one before, I wonder what else they made

Re: 1963 Batavus Bilonet Super Sport

They made motors for all kinds of stuff, especially after they were bought by Rockwell.
