Unmolested Magnum II They're still out there.

I drove 7 1/2 hours both ways to get this Magnum. It has a little over 1400 miles on the OD, hasn't been licensed since 99 and appears to have sat outside most of that time. The premix ZA50 is locked, the Bing slide is stuck. But the good is it's all there except the left side lower cover. The photos are from late last night after 15 hours of driving and unloading. Plan to start disassembly and cleaning tonight. It even had the original tool kit still in the plastic wrapper and the premix cup and holder behind the left side cover. This will be my first deep dive into a Puch and a ZA50 so I will be living in the Wiki till its done. I plan to put it back completely stock original to begin with and go from there.

Finally made time for the Magnum. I was able to free the piston but compression was low so pulled the head and cylinder. Glad I did, cylinder had water standing inside. Crank is visibly rusted guessing will need new bearings at the very least. I’ve already ordered seals, pucks, gaskets, carb bits and tires and tubes. First Puch I’ve worked on, built a quick stand to support the roller while the engine is off. I’ll start disassembly tomorrow night. On the good side the transmission side was full of clean red transmission fluid and no water.

I thought MKII's came with hydros? Those look like the XK forks

How do you know someone don’t stick their greasy fingers down that exhaust ?

I wish someone would have stuck their greasy fingers down the cylinder and then covered it with a tarp. But not complaining, glad to have it complete.

And not sure on the forks other than they don’t appear to have ever been removed.

Brandon, I paid about what you did. Mine was locked up so needing some love, but I am very happy to have found it and able to buy it. Living here in the mid-west (KC Mo.) we just don's see any Magnums at all. So I'm enjoying learning how to work on my ZA50. Cant wait to hear it run when its back together.

While cleaning on the Magnum tonight I noticed the original tire pump still attached. Took it off the mounts and found the original fill hose inside. Cleaned it off, attached the hose and pumped up the front tire. Still works. Amazing how something 40 years old and has sat out in the elements for the last 20 years of that still works.. That's one of the many things I love about mopeds.

It isn’t a mkII it’s a magnum II

MkII: mag wheels and hydro forks

Magnum II: spoke wheels and springs

Things used to be much better made than most are today.
