what oil,what mix

I just bought a '78 puch. I've got it running but not sure if I should run 50:1 or 20:1 as the sticker recommends both. If I have a qt. of 2cyl quaker state oil which mix should I use? I'm sure this is old hat for you guys but I don't want to cook it. thanks.

RE: what oil,what mix

20:1 is for break-in period, and 50:1 is a regular ratio, so if your engine has no replaced parts to be broken in you can mix 50:1. However, if you like crazy tricks and motocross madness style of riding, I would advise you to mix 33:1 to get secured against piston seizure and all that.

What I do is buy, 1 gallon of gas, and use 5 capfulls(cap from moped's gas tank) of oil. It should be only four, but most of the time you are running at/or close to full speed, and the extra lubrication cannot hurt.

Also I was told to use a synthetic two cycle oil, but I think I am going to stop using the systhetic oil, because it is expensive. $8.00 quart.

Does anyone else have any opinions on the use of synthetic two cylcle oil?

take a gallon gas tank and mix it will a synthetic blend of 2 cycle oil. use a measuring cup or a ratio cup and mix 3.5 ounces to a gallon. shakewell before fueling. i suggest you dont use regular 2 stroke oil (quaker state)mopeds have small motors and tend to carbon up easily.they foul plugs and carbon your exhaust, port and cylinder.the synthetic burns cleaner. it costs 3.00-$5.00 but its's well worth it. let me know if you ever need moped parts. i have a store in florida.941-627-6600. good luck

i always use synthetic oil at my store, even in the repair bikes. It's more money(3-$5.00) but you dont have the carbon build up in the exhaust or cylinder.also you get less fouled plugs.the good oil does make a difference

RE: what oil,what mix

what you said, use "normal" oil once and never agian the carbon build up was too much.

now i only use synthetic oil, here {honolulu} costs me $1.79 for a bottle that will fill up my oil resevoir. do not pre-mix on my Areo 50, or Spree. even both are modified, although i sometimes mix some with my gas anyways if i plan to do alot of riding.
