Re: BSA Ariel 3

That thing is rad!

Re: BSA Ariel 3

Several years ago Bert Hopwood who designed the Ariel SQ4, Triumph, BSA and Norton twins and other motorcycles wrote a book titled "What Ever Happened to the British Motorcycle Industry". Great read if you can find a copy. In the book there was a chapter where he discussed the Ariel 3 which came out in 1970. He described it as the final nail in the coffin of BSA. BSA folded in 72/73.

A bit of history. Ariel was part of Triumph from the 30's. Triumph was bought by BSA in the early 50's. Ariel was phased out in the late 50's only for BSA to bring back the name for the Ariel 3. There is a lot more to this story but that's it in a nutshell.

Confused? Here is a picture of a 1950 Ariel SQ4.

Re: BSA Ariel 3

This has been sitting for a bit. Been busy with a move, new house projects, and other moped/scooter projects.

Ariel 3 is on the work bench, gave it a deap clean, new engine, running new cables. A few other bits and waiting on a new belt. Should be on the rode very soon.
