On a true clutchless setup the motor stops when the bike stops. This isn't an issue on a race bike since you don't need to stop and idle. It would kind of suck on the street, which is why they have those variators with the needle bearing in the center so the variator can spin once the belt moves down the cheeks. Alternatively you could use a clutch pulley.
