Re: Do we really need 2 stroke oil

None of the chain stores (pep boys, AutoZone, etc) around me sell it.

I use klotz benol in some of my bikes, but not pure castor oil.

Maybe a single store choice or only sold on line ???

https://www.autozone.com/motor-oil-and-transmission-fluid/engine-oil/stp-pro-formula-nd-30-conventional-engine-oil-1-quart/811768_0_0

Along with Walmart , Tractor Supply , Advance Auto and NAPA .

Re: Do we really need 2 stroke oil

Yeah, when I clicked on "in store pickup at (my nearest location") it said not available.

Not sure why stores around here don't carry it. I've checked every auto parts store within a five mile (at least) radius, and no one has it, and some can't even order it.

Re: Do we really need 2 stroke oil

Tractor supply, northern hydraulics? Autozone is by far the WORST and most expensive auto parts store ever put on the planet. I will never darken the door of one again. Just use two stroke oil, you are not saving much by not, and I'm cheap as fuck, so you can take my word for it. :)

Re: Do we really need 2 stroke oil

Ive been using drain oil from my car in my weed wacker, leaf blower and chainsaw and I haven’t had any problems in five plus years of doing that. It’s a good way to get rid of the used oil and saves me money not having to get 2 stroke oil. In my Sachs I do use actual 2 stroke oil. I look at the moped as a higher quality thing compared to my weed wacker so I put the proper oil in it. It’s also German made and like a German car if you don’t follow directions and put the right stuff in it, it will break and break again and then keep on breaking because, well it’s German made.

Re: Do we really need 2 stroke oil

^ My Honda has run flawlessly for the 22 years I have owned it on either Hondaline 2 stroke oil/Yamalube or Castrol 2t, it is not that much of an expense. no way in hell 'am I running used engine oil, just because you can, does not mean you should.

Just a possibility , but , maybe it's a California thing .

That sounds really cool! Do you filter the oil or anything? And what ratio are you using? (edited)

I don’t filter it but I do clean the oil pan with gasoline prior to draining the oil and spray off the bottom of the engine oil pan with brake cleaner so no dirt gets in the oil. Again, I use this oil in my yard equipment, not my moped...just want to be clear on that!

Totally a california thing. I have heard tell you can get compressor oil from hardware stores that is the same thing. I'm moving to cali soon with 3 garelli bikes that need this shit I hope I can still find a good source for it. Or I'm buying a case before I leave town.

Re: Do we really need 2 stroke oil

Most ace hardware stores have it (they have their own brand name on it,) as well as lawnmower shops, etc. It's easy to find, just not at auto stores.

Funny thing is, every place I've bought it, it's always the dustiest bottles on the shelf.

Just a bit aged . Like fine wine . ;)

Re: Do we really need 2 stroke oil

The use of the used engine oil in lawn equipment only makes it seem more promising for stock moped configuration... those weed eaters and chainsaws really see some hard work.

If I can get my hands on another e50 I might actually give it a try.
