My First 50 MPH Tomos Is Trying To Kill Me. Brake Fail

Dave Thacker /

Rolled out for a morning blast on my fasted ride. Touched the front brakes in drive and the locked to a skid couple of times. Figured dampness. Drug them a bit to warm up. When they didn't grab again blasted off for a good ride. No apparent problems till I dismounted to find this.

Looks like it's time to upgrade to the EBR hydro boys and throw a disc brake setup on while you're at it

I've been look'in at'em. Is this a common failure? I'm wondering if it had a crack or stress fracture from all the 14-16 year old kids who owned it before? I had to fix a ton of shade tree stuff on this one. Basically anything that was touched before I rescued it.

Yep things like that happen! I’ve had one come apart on a rusted swingarm when I put on the brake. It pulled the cable, rapped it around/got caught in the chain and sprocket locked up the wheel.

It pulled the handlebars to the left, went into skidding drift, Didn’t lay it down but back hurt for days because I had to lift up the back of the bike to push it home almost a half mile.

Looks like you may be able to weld that back on but you may need a fork tube/forks, hope you don’t have any more damage to your bike or yourself,

Not sure how it would fit (Maybe too tall) but if you do need forks a good upgrade would be forks and disc brake set up from a revival or streetmate they come up for sale a lot here or you could post for a set

Thanks Roffman. Yea, I have 2 A55 Sprints with those forks. But I'd love the the set with the disk brakes. For now I ordered a new lower for that side. But I'm upgrading to Hydro soon I think. I've been wanting disk brakes for it so that is really a requirement.
