Oh momma!

Damn I need to see what is needed to make this work on my magnum.....

z50 NOS

Re: Oh momma!

Dirty30 Dillon /

Fairly certain it's a bolt-on affair, but you'll need to grab a LH twist shifter

Re: Oh momma!

Jay Rivett /

Yeah it looks pretty bolt on, I'm just not familiar with the shifting function on it. Do you pull the clutch lever to shift or is it some how shifted without a clutch? See... not familiar at all. It would be a super cool grab but I'm just not sure what I can do with it yet. Damn. I always try biting off more than I can chew. I know it would be the same thing I have going with the puch/hero/Honda engines I have that i cant make work right now. Ha!

Re: Oh momma!

Dirty30 Dillon /

It's a twist shift. Pull clutch lever in, twist into gear, release clutch, GO.

Just like every vintage scoot.

Re: Oh momma!

Jay Rivett /

Yeah seems simple enough. Now I gotta sell some shit to afford it. Ha!

Re: Oh momma!

It's cool that it's NOS, but you can get used ones a lot cheaper.

puchshop sells clutch levers for these. I used an old sachs 3 speed lever on mine.

Re: Oh momma!

treats had the shift levers too, matches zundapp, there were tons of grippyshift euro peds

Oh I would take a used one for much cheaper. Please share if you know of any. But seriously a NOS would be super sweet. Talk about un molested and ready to ride... I'm curious about the transfers on this case. Wonder if all puch cylinders match up easily.

Yeah that’s been posted for weeks,

One would be a big dummy to buy that because doesn’t have a kick starter for one, You have to buy a foot brake hub for five stars rims (as well as the rims) as which is on the opposite side

As well as the foot pedals and brake actuating arm and rod which is only made for a maxi, you need a different sprocket also as well as spacing the rear wheel a little different, Most of the non-kickstart ones don’t even have needle bearing cranks,

You need a swingarm that has the brake plate holder on the other side plus the twist grip shifter cable Which is hard to set up to shift properly, and all kinds other stuff

I do have a spare five star rim foot brake hub though it would cost you if you really wanted it

I got a kick start Z50 and Stock it’s geared kinda crappy (too low) The clutch even with a metra kit spring kinda slips with a built kit but should hold a mild build with a 15 mm bing and mild pipe, basically a za50 blows it away because it could hold more power

But Manual Shifting is fun It would be more fun if it had a foot shifter

Because by shifting it the wrist position changes and you have to literally hold the clutch lever in your hand entire time if you want to downshift right away like blasting in the corners or a hill and low bars are even more difficult,

A yanked the whole set up and put on a a za50 with flipped clutch it’s 5 to 6 miles faster with almost automatic shifting at the right shift points So it’s MEH For way too much money, way too much parts and work but that’s my opinion

Re: Oh momma!

The transfers are pretty small (speed regulations etc.) But there's plenty to work with.

Bought this one for a 100€, but they pop up from time to time on Marktplaats and ebay.de for around 200€

Edit; The whole different rear drum business has been solved with this. (edited)

Re: Oh momma!

Roffman,

I see that it would take much work. It is always me biting more than I can chew. That whole, Well who else is gonna show up with one like this, kind of thought process.

Honestly i would be much more interested in one of your za50 engines if you have any spares at a decent price.

these might still be available

Re: Oh momma!

Dirty30 Dillon /

You could make this a great motor.

My only holdup was always, why do all the shifting for just 2 gears?

The 4 speed Monza, or 5 speed Monza "Barcelona" motors are worth the effort but 100% not bolt-in to a moped frame.

Re: Oh momma!

Whoever bought that ^ must have loved throwing 890$ away or had a 2 speed hand shift/foot brake Maxi that had a broken or missing engine And wanted to throw almost more 900 bucks into it,

Man I hate web bidding/sales platforms making Mopeds so expensive past few years so only the rich can afford them when they were actually made for poor and frugal people.

Used car and parts prices on eBay and craigslist are getting the out of hand too.

You could get tons of cheap china stuff, knickknacks , clothes and crap on eBay for cheep but otherwise Most everything is overpriced and now they’re allowing price gouging on disinfecting wipes, sprays and such.

If you're complaining, than find a new hobby. This one dude with a genuine great find putting it on eBay is not tanking the moped economy.

It's a vintage motorsport now, not poor people grocery getters. Just like the VW Beetle.

I can build a new motor for my vw bug for the cost of that engine, just saying?

Bugs aren't bad, try building a vw bus though. Better have a water cooled credit card.

Water cooled bus?

Re: Oh momma!

I hope someone on here grabbed that engine. I would love to see it at a rally some day or a build thread on here.

And yeah I PM'd that guy already and did not hear back on it.

True it’s Wheeling and making great revs but he’s not going very fast because that’s how you have to gear them because if You throw a lot of gear on a Hi powered za50 the clutch slips because it’s only a single spring design unlike normal motorcycle clutches that have several,

He’s maybe burning up/glazing clutches every few rides but He can make a cylinder from scratch, He probably doesn’t mind changing clutches/deglazing them or maybe he made one that has multiple springs.

That cylinder though! Man!

Re: Oh momma!

Jay Rivett /

I would not be sad about that speed at all. I am a fan of 45 all day. And if it gets there on 1 wheel then that is even cooler!

You can go from nothing, to a completely fresh VW motor for $550? Like nothing, you can buy every single engine component for $550 + shipping?

I know you like to argue so that motor sold for almost 1k. That motor still needed to have a carb intake and the likes. I can get a nice fresh long block with new pistons heads for 1k easy. My buddy builds turn key with everything for $1800. This is also apple's and oranges. Vw motor is 60+ hp compared to a 2hp moped engine. I can buy a good used bw long block for $400. Beetles are still way cheaper in California than a moped. Not a good comparison.

That 14,000 + RPM moped in video although cool is only good for short blasts, that z50 engine won’t last a whole rally’s or any kind of everyday commuting screaming like the all the time at more double its design rpm and 10x the Hp

As you can tell he’s riding it in the winter, riding it in a rally at a 90° humid day who knows

They cannot ride those kind of bikes on normal streets for commuting/everyday use over there in Dutchland/Netherlands and such they will be inpounded,

The cops have roadside dynamometers so anything overstock speed or stock horsepower is impounded and crushed.

So they just build super crazy stuff for sprinting, racing or small or back farm roads etc for fun.

I wasn't compare power output, I was offering a comparison of the original intended markets for VW Beetles and Mopeds are very similar, as are the price increase to collectors. If you had an NOS VW flat 4 motor, I'm sure it would sell for a ridiculous amount as well.

Again, the Roffian dream that mopeds go back to being trash and fodder is moot.

Apparently Beetles in 2020 California are now the moped of 2002 flea markets.

The video clearly states that it's from Austria, which is a totally different country.

Also 99% of the time fast bikes aren't impounded and crushed, you just lose your registration and you pay a fine. The moped harassing has gotten less and less over the past few years luckily.

In Austria i believe the police will pretty much just wreck your bike if it doesn't look stock, but not totally shure about that.
