Ship from BK to Hawaii? Or Buy local on Maui?

This forum has been a Big help to me. Got my bike running after

Multiple Issues, some intermittent, arose due to a long period of my ped sitting in the weather.

Question is: Should I ship my ped to Maui for almost $900 or just buy another ped when I get there.

What is most cost effective$ Replacement value of my bike, according to MA is aprox $1000 or so.

I don’t mind getting something that runs, in Maui, and tweaking it for performance as I go along. But, I will need to buy a runner to get around and do errands.

How much might I have to pay for a decent ride in Maui?

I think most mopeds are on Oahu, but I bet there are some in Maui too. I would personally go through the trouble of shipping my bike rather than starting over buying a man expensive rusty bucket and probably spending more shipping treats to Hawaii.

You could reach out tomopedluau. Their profile has a link to a blog and Instagram that both seem pretty active. They should be able to give you an idea on what you can expect to pay for a bike.

Most of if not everything I've seen out of Hawaii seems to be puch, I'm not sure what kind of bike selection there is out there.

From the few folks from HI that have posted on here, finding an actual moped on Hawaii is very difficult as scooters have been the mode of transpo for the last 25 years.

If I was moving to HI, I would just as soon import a modern Dio 2t and forget about mopeds altogether.

Lia (Raven Shining [?]) posts occasionally about mopeds in HI. Might be good to look through some of her struggles.

I would disassemble the bike put it in a couple boxes and mail it there.

Unless that’s what you said cost $900?

But I bet you could mail it there for less than $200.

Forks and frame fit in the same box with all the little Moped Bits packed around it. Then tank and engine in a shorter, bulkier box with lots of bubble wrap.

Good time to clean some stuff and get non rusty fasteners.

What do you think?

Shipping to HI is VERY expensive. Much higher than EU - US or vice-versa

Hawaii May be the ideal place for the electric bike as well.

Cause, like, who cares about range on a little island.

Plus gas might be really expensive. Dunno.

As low as 2.35 on Oahu and as high as 3.79 on Maui .

I think Hawaii has some Puch mopeds,but I bet they want alot of money for nice ones.You have a nice bike.I would ship it if I were you and could afford it.I don't know if you will find much minarelli stuff there.

I would 100% ship my bike there. But Those hills and MTNS are no joke and would make me second guess owing a moped or scooter. It is practical in a city but if you live somewhere on a mountain no way. If I moved there I would probably just get back into building motorcycles mainly because of the terrain.

I haven't read all the way through the post replies yet, but I do like the idea of getting the frame cleaned up and doing the ultra deep clean that disassembly would allow.

I contacted a motorcycle shipping service that gives quotes by make and model. They said $870. Seemed like a lot too me. but, hey, its HI every thing is costlier because it literally has to be shipped.
