Delaware registration.

Matt Griffith /

I'm just about ready to register my Maxi in Delaware. I called into the DMV office and asked about the process. I was advised that I would need to bring it in for a VIN inspection and provide a bill of sale since I don't have a title.

Has anyone here gone through this process in DE? Is there anything else that I should be aware of? I'm a little apprehensive since I don't have a title.

Thanks

I wish it was that easy!

Re: Delaware registration.

Sounds like they are providing answers. That’s a good sign that they’ll be helpful.

I haven’t done DE but have been to many DMV offices.

If I find a particular place wants to give me trouble, it’s usually just that person. I used 4-5 different BMVs around Ohio. If some arrogant lazy ass person wouldn’t help, I’d just go to another one.

I’ve been told a vehicle had to be there for an inspection, just to show up and the person I dealt with didn’t care and stamped me through.

If you know you have a legal right, you will get a tag. It’s longer and harder to fight with a prick behind the counter. So, like I said, just try another office if that happens.

Oh no. I have a backup plan that includes "selling" it to my brother in MD, going through a tag and title, then "buying" it back with a registration. Obviously, I'd rather not go through the trouble.

What issues have you had?

Delaware doesn't exist

VT is the way to go. Done it a few times, most recently with my ‘96 Honda Rebel. NJ MVC would never have let me register it without a title.

I have done it in DE you have to have a bill of sale stating that they are the original owner and why it was never registered!

Re: Delaware registration.

Do you have any updates on this? I’m in the same boat and am trying to figure what I need to bring to the DMV since I don’t have the title.
