1982 and later Honda C90 Passports are great because they are 12v and CDI. The CT Trail bikes are cool but not as functional transport as the C90. I have a 69 Honda C70 that's a classic - but its an old bike and comes with quirks.
You'll find a lot more reliability and affordability per mphs with the modern stuff and scooters or real motorcycles in general. Somebody is getting rid of a Zuma that they never ride or cant get started because its been sitting. Zuma is good, but some Honda Elites have pop up headlights. There are more storage options with scooters which sounds like something you'll need.
I once had a 2002 or so 50cc Derbi Manhattan that had the Piaggio engine, when I got it for $250 it didn't run, but there was oil in injector reservoir, it had spark and compression, - seemed like a carb problem battery. I got it running and it went 25mphs. I put a Tecnigas Next R Pipe and tuned the carb, and it was instant 45mph grocery getter.
