Mopeds in bike lane ohio

I’m guessing not but legally can you ride a pedal moped in the bike lane if a street has one in Ohio?

I've had bikers go off on me for it, while literally pedalling a moped in a bike lane engine off. I tell them to fuck off.

Ohio Revised Code 4501.01(L) defines mopeds as being interchangeable with motorized bicycles. It's not a motor vehicle in Ohio it's a motor assisted bicycle. So bike lanes are okay. Seriously print this off and keep it with you. If you're doing more than 20 down a bike lane you may have issues.

Re: Mopeds in bike lane ohio

Why should someone not be allowed to pedal with a motor as long as it’s not running? That’s why they have pedals in the first place . Is it alright to push a moped in the bike lane?

Here’s what I do since I have puch magnums that kind a look like a small motorcycle,

I make them to go at least 40 mph or kitted to 55-60 mph On state routes but that’s another story!

A car being behind like that is not going deal with Your slow ass 20mph in a 35 mph zone,

It will cause an accident almost always!

If you can’t go 5 mph over whatever speed limit you’re riding on which will or injure or kill you buying trying to pass you whatever as stupid young motorist are looking at their phone, Texting, vaping, smoking weed, Having oral sex, adjusting stereo Whatever you name it,

You have to make a moped go 40+mph with fast takeoff if you’re going to drive in 35 mph zone,

If you can’t then just putt putt it around your development or driveway maybe in your campground otherwise don’t evengo on the public roads ever!

Other day had electric bike which was ridiculous going 22mph in a 35Mph and was heading up to a 40 mph, the dumb ass hogged the whole lane going 22Mph within 100 feet of 40 mph limit sight!

I wanted to so bad to clip him for being a dumb ass but that’s not allowed nowadays all these crazy people allowed to break the law everywhere you can’t say nothing“

Smoking weed and having oral sex in your car is great, I don't care what anyone says, it only gets dangerous if the car is moving.... ;)

Re: Mopeds in bike lane ohio

I enjoy riding a nice torquey all-around 45-50mph DMP kitted setup that is great in traffic and on open roads here in Cleveland, Ohio. Having good takeoff and being able to pull mid-40's in a hurry if need be makes the riding experience all that more fun and enjoyable. Having a well-tuned setup that has crisp throttle response at all RPMs makes all the difference. I listened to Ken's advice step by step when I made my kitted Maxi build back in April and I have been rewarded with a fun, fast machine that has been dead reliable. I have even taken it on a 75 mile round trip and had no issues. If you build it just right, look after it and follow the correct advice then you will have an amazing blast machine like I have. I now own two fast bikes one is a 70cc DMP kitted Puch e50 (my favorite, it goes 50mph on flat roads) and a lightly modded Tomos Targa LX a35 (goes mid 40's). Be off one jet size or needle clip setting or be off with timing and your bike will be a dog

Exactly, multiple bikers have called me choice words literally pedalling a moped with no motor power. Entitled assholes don't see a bike you pedal as a bicycle for some reason

Hypocritical cyclists ignoring traffic lights, riding on sidewalks, doing whatever the fark they want and then bitchin' about someone in their lane.

I'm appalled!! No one else found this hilarious?

Re: Mopeds in bike lane ohio

You can, but don't need to and probably shouldn't unless you're pedaling home a breakdown.

To the point of bikers ignoring laws, most of the laws are designed around cars. You don't need stopsigns and lights if everyones on bikes, you can totally get around safely and at actually lower impact to cars if you're not stuck following car traffic rules. I don't mean forgo all safety and blast through intersections, but if it's safe to go through a red on a bicycle it's actually improving traffic flow and probably your safety on a bike also... The downside is it upsets drivers, who in a car you wind up pretty conditioned to view everyone outside the vehicle not as people but as obstacles to getting where you're going. And you wind up feeling wronged if someone gets to go when you have to wait. Seems unfair. Sadly they also don't support better and more functional alternatives like bike lanes to improve both driving and cycling.

TLDR I think it's important to respect the intended purpose of those bike lanes which is providing safe efficient routes for people biking, and not to be a convenient buffer for slower vehicles like your moped. Walk on the sidewalk, bike in the bike lane, ride/drive on the road. It's safest and most effective when you're doing what you're supposed to where you're intended to else you confuse and obstruct.

Re: Mopeds in bike lane ohio

I see A LOT of bicyclists riding slow in the middle of the traffic lanes slowing all the cars behind them down to a crawl especially in the Metroparks. Fucking morons. And to top it all off they have a bike path but for some reason they wanna go slow in the roadway

Re: Mopeds in bike lane ohio

I wouldn't ride in a bike lane, though I see tweekers with motorized walmart bikes do it sometimes. I do motor up to and pedal through the "no turn on red except bicycles" green bike boxes they have painted at many intersections here.
