Converting halogen bulbs to led

I'm looking to make my motobecane moped lights led instead of the regular halogen bulbs. I was wondering if that is possible? If so how would I go about doing it? Picture of my moped below. It's a late 60s early 70s motobecane with a isodyne m1 engine. I believe it runs 6v? Not 100% sure.

Re: Converting halogen bulbs to led

LEDs require DC voltage. You will need to install a rectifier at least for the lighting.

Re: Converting halogen bulbs to led

Not true on the DC requirement. In the stock setup you should be fine running the LED equivalent of the bulb based you have in the bike now. Just search for the base type you have with LED. They can still blow out without a regulator but I have not had many fail. They can flicker, especially at lower RPMs without a regulator.

Re: Converting halogen bulbs to led

From testing this and that, 6v ac 6v dc 12v ac and 12v dc I found 12v dc worked the best for me with LED's. There is a very good write up on doing the conversion here in the forums.

Sure they’ll light up but you need to be OK with a strobe light at idle. Why would a regulator reduce flickering?

AC vs. DC

Re: Converting halogen bulbs to led

It's possible. I know with phone chargers, they convert 12v dc to 5v ac, to 5v dc. Could probably do something with a rectifier, regulator and capacitor, and a resistor or two, of course.

Why wouldn't you want that^ ?

Seems to me that would make you a lot more noticeable .

People see a 'flashing' light much quicker than a constant on light .

Re: Converting halogen bulbs to led

Wiring is the only thing I would happily pay someone else to do for me on my moped.

I love doing wiring. I'm insane but it runs in the family.
