I have known about claying for years, but only just done it myself. I bought a 'new to me' white van and it was covered in these little fine hairs of metal that had oxidised and stuck to the paintwork. I tried washing it, but no dice. I went to the local car store and they had a Meguires kit, with clay bar and a liquid spray 'lubricant'. You make sure the bodywork is clean and dry, spray on the lube and then go over with the clay bar. I was amazed at how much stuff came off and on to the bar. Then you just fold the bar in on itself when it gets dirty, because it's like playdoh and carry on. It left the body panels as smooth as silk and then you use a polish and then a wax to seal. I was thoroughly impressed at the result.
