since your trouble shooting. start by bypassing the brakelight circuit. Disconnect the black wire coming from the stator at the point where it joins the double black wire connector. Then use a clip lead or some other good wire to ground the single black wire from the stator. Grounding this wire cleanly is very important as the ignition will not spark at all with out this wire being grounded good.

Aslo unplug the blue wire in the same area. This is the kill switch wire and now it it will be out of the mix.
