Do all hobbit cases have those ridges or what

Beach Club Nick /

So I've owned several hobbits for 7 years now, but I've always had pa50i's. I've always dremeled off the little nubs on the cases before kitting since everyone with a pa50i knows you can't bolt up a kit without doing that. Well I got a pa50ii motor I was rebuilding and lo and behold it has the same notches in it. The DR kit on this bike clears fine, see the pic. I am 99.9% sure this motor is a pa50ii due to the crank, variator, and reedblock all being a pa50ii part. the motor has also never been apart cause these case screws weren't demolished and I destroyed 4 of them even with a JIS impact driver.

So what gives? Is this some sort of weird bike that some dude switched the crank, variator, and intake setup on back in the day before the case screws turned to cheese? Or do all hobbit cases have these nubs? I took apart a pa50i I had laying around and it looks identical.

Pic of the DR kit clearing the nubs with ease. Are the stock hobbit cylinder skirts just longer? No need to Dremel down these nubs with kits? I also vaguely remember being able to tell by the engine serial number if the cases are pa50i or pa50ii, I attached a pic so I could double check that when I remember how you tell based on that.

I think they both have the ridges but they're different lengths. Also, the pa50i cylinder skirt itself is notched to go over the ridge.

Piston Skirt at BDC may hit those nubs.

Re: Do all hobbit cases have those ridges or what

is it on both case halves?

If you're just looking at that little ridge, that's to smooth the transition to the skirt. like theres still a ridge on the pa2's; it's just set back and serves not as a physical impediment to derestriction but is actually a flow improvement. I think.

another case difference on the 1's is the little hole for the reed block, theres a nub on the reeds too, and on the pa1's it's smaller so only the 1 petal reeds fit. so the reeds wouldve had to be modified to fit a PA1 case if it was ever a swap over. most people grind the nub off but you could drill the case hole bigger too i guess

The ridges are only one the one case half, which made me wonder why they were there at all if not to restrict. The hole for the reedblock was the correct size for the pa50ii reeds. I was almost certain this was a 50ii motor I just didn't understand why they would bother making the nubs on this one case half if they didn't do anything
