Pair of Garelli Gran Sports - Titling in Wisconsin

Seth Barribeau /

Hello, I have a question for you guys.

So, I just bought a pair of Garelli Gran Sports (as seen below) and they didn't come with titles. I was just checking into the laws for titling them in Wisconsin (where I live), and it seems like a pain. Is there a way to title them easily like going through Vermont or something?

It sounds like Wisconsin requires you to apply, pay one and a half times what they determine the value of the mopeds are, wait five years and hope they remember to return the money you spent for the title. I think that's how it works.

I would love to get them on the roads and go out for some ice cream with my wife, but I'm not sure what to do. I can get the bill of sale easily or whatever documents I need, but the guy bought them from someone else without a title... and he said they were found in a barn.

Thanks in advance.

Read through this and then decide which path might be easiest :

Once you get the Vermont registration and plates I'd run them until it's time to renew and then maybe transfer to your home state . I'd think you could transfer right away , but ???

I wanna register my Cimatti. Guy I bought it from didn't know what a moped was, and didn't have any paperwork.

Could I just fudge the bill of sale info and have a friend act as the seller? - I don't wanna inconvenience the PO, he's old as dust and hard at hearing.

I have all the other info on the bike.

If you know anyone in mn you can have them do it for you, it's easy here.

I'll check this stuff out. And, I do know a bunch of people from MN. Thanks for the tips

Re: Pair of Garelli Gran Sports - Titling in Wisconsin

If you do it in mn, we'll have a resident do it, you get plates that day, so long as you insure them if WI requires it, and have bill of sale from your friend you should be good to go to ride, once title comes to MN friend, take that to WI dmv, and you should be able to register and replate no problem.

You know, I've been looking into this for a while now and every time it comes down to a surety bond to get the titles for these mopeds which is 1.5x the value of the mopeds paid and you don't get that money back? Is there a different method you are talking about?

The problem is that I need a title. Vermont doesn't title the moped, it only registers them. They don't give mopeds titles. Wisconsin demands that mopeds have titles.

Get the Vermont registration , then transfer that to Wisconsin .

You'll have a title .

Yeah you walk in, tell em "hey I got this in Vermont, they don't title them but I got the registration transferred in my name" and they'll say okie dokie and give you a title. Sounds too good to be true but I've done it in Ohio with bikes like a 2003 Ninja 250 and it worked. And Ohio is a hard ass about titles

Well, I'll give it a try then. Thanks
