Yamaha Cute - But what is it?

Morne Bezuidenhout /

Hi there. I'm new to the forum. I was bored and decided to buy a cheap scooter from local classifieds. It was advertised as running but turned out to be worse for wear. Turns over, but wiring is a mess and the body looks like it had spent a weekend away at a spanish teenage resort and came back with an std and only an underpants and a sock. I dont know much about scooters, even less about 2 strokes. It is branded Yamaha Cute, from the 80's I believe. A bit of research shows they're not so "around" or known anymore. So, the search for parts to restore this not so cute midget on wheels might turn out more difficult than I imagined. Unless you gurus could point me to compatible parts and hopefully share your wisdom on what it is I should be looking for. I'm already stumped with 1YU000 which is the engine. Is this the same as SH50 or CG50 etc, numbers Ive come across? It also looks like Razz and Jog50 might be other names it was known as in other countries? Would a GY6 wiring harness work since this is not a 4 stroke, if the CDI is changed? What are 4/5/6 pin CDI's, whats the difference between them. Also seems to be different types of stators, are they interchangable? The pic attached is what the bike should look like in all its new glory. I appreciate your feedback.

I'm like 80% sure you have a razz, Yamaha never sold the cute here as far as I know. Parts would be easier to find if you look for Razz shit. Do not use a Gy6 wiring harness, it's not the right bike at all

Re: Yamaha Cute - But what is it?

If it's got jog running gear it's a great machine, we never got the "cute" in usa

Oh I didn't read your profile at all, you're in South Africa. So yeah it's a Cute, my bad. You can probably use Razz parts.

Looks a lot like the Yamaha Salient CA5 that I used to have . It had over 40,000 kms on it when I sold it.

regulators, CDI stuff like that. worth looking into.

It's in bad shape. I've stripped it. Been trying to get the engine running, it did for a few seconds yesterday after some fiddling with the harness and getting the flooded carb dry. I've patched the harness where I could, hopefully well enough to give it another try today. Just need to find a spark plug that would fit properly, lockdown has spares shops closed here at the moment. The one I have is too long and seems to leak around the thread. It's a nice looking frame. I'm hoping to restore it to a more naked look with bits I've ordered from Aliexpress. That'll take a few months to arrive though. I like this look.

The part numbers don't come up with several searches, hence wanting to know what more recent compatible models' I could use. I'm using this as a learning curve because I also have a Kawasaki Z200 waiting in the wings. A different kettle of fish I know. I can only get it after lockdown as it's in storage and have no access to it now.

Can I use a fuel/oil mix in one tank instead of having two seperate tanks?

Hi, havent gotten upto speed with it yet, just up and down the drive. I think it's a single speed, twist and go. It was a little sluggish off the mark, but once going, my kid almost went up an oak tree, his first go on a motorized bike. I had a scene of the Flintstones, slamming on flip-flops for brakes. Pics of the engine etc are at the link. https://photos.app.goo.gl/pEPXxRV7q9S9JC7w5

Yeah as long as you seal off the oil pump
