Stator key way broken

Recently I've been making the final repairs on my 1978 Sachs Westlake. It would run but only in place and when I would rev it felt like the bike wanted to go backwards. So I figured it was a timing issue. While adjusting the stator I realized the key way for the fly wheel had broken off. It isn't entirely snapped and can be out back in place but is loose. I was wondering if anyone knows a good way to keep it in place. I looked at getting a new crank but I can only find one. And it's over a hundred bucks and in Germany. Any tips are appreciated. Thank you!

Re: Stator key way broken

The key is only for ease of alignment and not to hold the flywheel in place, the taper fit is responsible for that, so set it and forget it.

Also your front fender is on backwards

Re: Stator key way broken

NO anything on the shaft will interfere with the grip of the taper, have it clean, no grease-oil-adhesive.

Re: Stator key way broken

Thank you everyone for the help. I'll be trying this out on Sunday when the weather gets back on track.
