Honda Urban Express Speed Increase and Repair

Nate Schreiner /

Hi, I have a 82 urban express and am wondering what I could do to repair it. It has sat in a barn for a few years and I cleaned it up reassembled it and it’s top speed is around 21 mph when I can see it goes up to 35. I’ve adjusted with the idle speed screw and gas/air intake on the carburetor, but it’s very finicky. New on this website, so any tips help.

Can you post a video of how it runs while riding?

What do you mean you could see it goes 35? You mean the speedo? That means nothing.

They go around 29 stock if it's a non restricted model.

Manual has good step by step for maintenance.

If it's an Iowa model it's going to go under 30

Use the manual as posted. There is an "autochoke" that uses a bimetal valve which is pretty cool imo. There should be 3 hoses that come off of the head. Make sure they are in good shape and are going to the correct spots.

Also, as other people have said, about 29-30 is what you're going to get out of a well-running stock setup. (edited)
