Garelli VIP complete!

August Adams-Miller /

Everything has finally come together on my 1980 Garelli VIP 2 speed.

MLM sidebleed pipe

New petcock and fuel lines

New longer pedal arms

White pedals

New tubes.

Sava White walls.

I redid the brake cables put in brand new tubes and rim strips. I’ve got the carb all tuned up and she rips now. I’m super happy! Any suggestions on what to do next? (edited)

Just started raining here but I’m dying to haha

Re: Garelli VIP complete!

Looks sick. Nice and clean. Rack is dope

Re: Garelli VIP complete!

Very nice!! Love whitewalls on any moped.

Re: Garelli VIP complete!

Ride it for a few months and enjoy it. Once you get used to or bored of it, then look on to other things to do to it.

Re: Garelli VIP complete!

very nice, change out the two crank seals, one behind stator plate and one behind clutches. and clean out any rubber bits/sludge on the tranny side. buy extra seals in case u mess up.

Throw your whitewalls in the trash where they belong

Mopeds are from the 70s and 80s, not the 30s and 40s. Save the whitewalls for hot rod guys.

And before anyone tries to say otherwise, no. Mopeds cannot be hot rods.

Wow it's his bike man. If he likes it that's all that matters. Lots of cars and bikes had white walls in the 70's.

Re: Garelli VIP complete!

nice job!

Re: Garelli VIP complete!

Mine will hit 35 mph on flat maybe 37 on a good day lol. So all in all I've gained like 5 mph from stock. I do run it a bit rich though to be safe so if I down jetted it might go a tad faster.

Same here man. I just took it on a long downhill on the way home from work and I still think it didn't break 40 with the help of the hill.

I think I'm pretty well jetted because she's kinda cold blooded - takes a min or so before I can pop off the choke.

How are your clutches working? Shifting like it should?

Also super curious what tooth count you have on the front and rear sprockets. I don't think my bigger front sprocket is doing anything for me

and I'm diggin the front rack and whitewalls..

Not a garelli guy but sometimes if you dont have the power to push the bike to powerband the larger sprocket can hinder your prformance. The larger sprocket can lug the engine down so it cant get rpms up if you understand what I'm saying. Did alot of sprocket tuning with minarelli v1. Made a big difference in the power the bike made. May think gear up and go faster but sometimes u got to gear down to get rpms up.

Clutch on mine seems to be fine atm. It’s never had a probleme shifting. Mine also doesn’t like to start up if it’s been sitting over a few hours. It will always start but for whatever reason it gets really low compression so I always have to pedal like a bat out of hell to get it going lol. As far as tooth count I have no idea what mine are, they’re still just the stock ones.
