Minarelli v1 opinions

Going to look at a Moton with a Minarelli v1 engine, thought I would ask what particular things to be looking for or any deal breakers. It’s cheap, not running, but looks complete, supposedly an ‘84

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

I think I was looking at the same one. At that price you can't go wrong. Seller says it turns over so verify that. Check the tank for rust. A little is fine. Really though I'd just go snatch it real quick and go over everything more when you get it home.

My guess it has no spark. Ignition cover is removed and he's talking about ordering spark plugs.

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

I have had sellers say the engine turns over but they know nothing about them. They say it turns over because the pedals turn. Make sure you pull in the start lever and pedal. If you pull it I. And cant pedal engine may be siezed.

If it's Italian it probably lost spark due to the brake light bulb going bad

No spark = Dirty points most of the time. At least that’s been my experience over the last 20+ years.

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

V1's are super simple to fix, and to make go fast. I'd worry about what it takes to fix up the rest of the bike, and not the motor.

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

Send me a pic of the bike or a link. The Motrons I have are 78 to 81, so, if it is indeed an 84, it could be a model meant for Europe. The tank is almost always the deal breaker, as everything else can usually be found online.

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

Got the bike. It's rough, but will live again. I need to find some parts, though. I heard there was a site for "lovers of Italian Mopeds". Anyone know where it is? I need a fan cover, probably a back wheel (16" Grimeca star), and all the chrome bars are rough--handlebars and those side, crash bars. The tank looks good and I have parts ordered to freshen up the top end, rebuild the Del'Orto. I like it so far. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

V1's have always made me "meh."

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

Let's see some pics? Is it in fact an 84? I have this motron. I don't remember but I think it's a 78?

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

Angels V1 was scary as shit. I've never rode a moped that fast.

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

There's "lovers of the V1" on facebook. All kinds of stuff shows up for sale there.

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

Ends up it's a '79. Not sure where the kid got '84 because the ID plate shows the date. I've already removed the D-cell powered directional signals, but here it is...

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

I fairly exclusively have V1 mopeds—it was my first, but beyond that, they are incredibly reliable and decent amount of part availability and performance options.

Lmk if there is anything you need, I bought out second stroke on V1 stockpile shit when they moved

thats a sweet ass motorn

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

oh man that thing is the business, i've never seen one that late... motrons are awesome, if i ever own another V1 it will be one of them

awhhhh shit that's the LTD colorway. My second favorite and super cool! Only second to the metalic olive color they have.

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

That color was the second to last Motron that I needed for my collection. I ended up paying $425 for mine. It was one of the few runners that I purchased. It's also the only "Classic" that I have, as most of mine are "Medalists". The color scheme is similar to UPS models of other brands. You've even got the little rack on the gas tank! Can't tell if the tail light is in fact from that angle. The only thing I see that isn't stock (besides the blinker setup) is the headlight/horn switch. You might be able to track down the correct one for that hand control and do a little soldering. All in all, a great looking Motron.

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

Dude! So glad you replied. Hoping to avoid having to buy a reproduction fan cover, in case you have one for the “103” version—if I have that number correct—4 screws, originally grey plastic. My back wheel is super wobbly, so a replacement Gremica star would be interesting. Handlebars, muffler, footrest (?) bars, and that’s about it for now. Do you have any of this stuff? Just FYI, my email is sd1963@bellsouth.net

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

Just realized I misspelled MOTRON. Much obliged for the replies...

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

If your back wheel is wobbly look into repacking the bearings with new freeze and the setting the cone nuts! Wheel might be fine. Unless you mean an actual wobble like there’s a bend in it. My fix would work if you’re talking about the wheel standing still and you can grab the tire and kinda move the wheel around some

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

Makes sense, and yes, it’s a bearing or mechanical issue, not the rim itself. Doing engine stuff first, but when I pull the wheel, I bet you’re right that the bearings are either not set up right or going bad. How often does it happen that a wheel is ruined by someone riding the bike with the bearings effed-up? Seems like that would screw up the seat for the bearing.

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

Yeah a 30+ year old vehicle has bearing issues, who would have known?

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

That thing looks awesome, never seen that color before. Good luck with the restoration.

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

Thanks. Now I can’t stop thinking of this bike as having the UPS paint scheme. Do you guys tend to want to leave the original paint alone, just clean it up and embrace the patina?

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

I think I would leave the color as is.

I've bought 10 Motrons in the last 4 years, plus my original bike in 1979. One was a parts bike, so otherwise I would have 3 green, 3 yellow, 3 red, 1 gray, and one UPS.

There might be a nice gray one still for sale in Rochester, NY, but I've only seen one other UPS for sale in the Northeast/Central Ohio area in the last 2 years, and that one ended up in my basement.

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

Do you have a good, used flywheel and stators for a V1?

Re: Minarelli v1 opinions

V1 wooo!!
