hole in tank

Stuart Jeremias /

hey guys so this is my indian. it has a large hole on both of tank. all the metal is still there. so what i was thinking is could i bend the metal back out, weld it with some steel, and then coat the inside of the tank. or should i just try to find a whole new frame.

New frame...I wouldn't ride that for fear of it buckling. Unless you added a crossbar.

Re: hole in tank

Ya new frame. I mean you have t and you could try but I think you’ll be chasing leaks and structural support issues

I'm in NYC, and whether it is here or there, it's not worth $150.

I'm in neither place and never will be , unless taken against my will .

Anyway , it's not worth 150 to you or me , but , we're not there or him , so ...

People pay a thousand dollars for Indians? Maybe I should round up all the $100-300 in Ohio and trailer em out there to sell

Re: hole in tank

Cristian Luna /

I’m in California too and I would never pay 150 for that nor do they sell for 1k

Maybe there's a difference between northern and southern Ca ?

Re: hole in tank

Stuart Jeremias /

if i found one local for 800 or less running i would buy it for sure. i know they are pretty basic and chinese but i just think it’s sorta rad to have an indian. and i would rather pay 150 and put money in than buy one straight up. i figure i’m going to be in this one like 500 total.

Part it out and buy a better brand.

Re: hole in tank

Surprised no one has talked about this being a shitty clone of an ok Honda, but seriously. Those 4 stroke engines suck. Yeah they are reliable but you'll never get above 28mph.

Perfect for a novice or even a guy like me . I've experienced well over a hundred MPH on 2 wheels , many times . 28 - 30 MPH on 2 wheels suits me fine .

I do have faster bikes , but , I ride the FA50 way more . ;)

I have a magnum and two derbis also. i don’t know sort of an impulse buy i didn’t see the hole it in the pics but after i made the drive out i didn’t feel like going home without it.

Re: hole in tank

I got hit by a car with my TS50. The front quarter punched a hole in the tank and peeled it open like a sardine can. After running a halfass "close-enough" tank for a while I took a whack at bending it back and rewelding. Even being very careful with a pretty good welder on low heat I burned a few spots but was able to get it sealed all but some pinholes. those you can take care of with brazing. I used JB weld, which isnt ideal but has held up for over 6 years of continuous regular abuse. I applied externally then drew a vacuum inside the tank before it dried to draw a little bit inside to give it really good adherence and staying power

can't even really tell (tho the bar is in the way)

Re: hole in tank

Stuart Jeremias /

i’m tempted to just weld but i found new frame that i think is gonna work out. do you guys think it was in a crash? i can pretty much replace everything but if motor is messed up i don’t wanna put any money in. it’s clean tho and sound freely. i wonder if it could have been some sorta storage ding??
