Vermont title trick with a bike already with a California plate?

Hey so I got a puch magnum a while ago and I just found out the guy I bought it from was not the original owner and I believe the original owner is no longer around and I was just wondering if I can use the trick and not worry about the original plate and it being registered to the old owner? thanks

It’s not a a trick.

It’s not a title.

It is a legal VT registration which you can then attempt to register in your state and apply for title.
