Midrange needle tuning question

Angry Hipster /

I understand the symptoms of rich/lean main jet at wot, but is mid range tuning just a matter of adjusting the needle to eliminate bogging and calling it good?

Needle and pilot jet. Try the needle first then go up in pilot sizes

Thanks, so assuming the carb is a Bing with no removable pilot jet you just adjust the needle until no bog is noticed?

Is that the extent of needle adjustment?

Needle controls mixture mid-low to mid-high. So yes? How is your main jetting? I'm sure someone more knowledgeable with bings (or in general) will chime in.

Thanks Josiah, I'm really just trying to understand tuning theory more than fixing a particular bike, although I am sure my puch needs some tuning, but I'm running it rich for now to help break it in.
