Derbi rd50 chopper build thrad

Cristian Luna /

It’s CHOPPA TIME

Well first off idk who cut up the frame and made it chopper. I’m hoping maybe one of you guys can tell me. I was told there’s a build thread for it somewhere but I couldn’t find it . Well the specs the front end is off a Yamaha dt175 I just found that out yesterday by searching the part number I found on the brake shoes haha . I’ll need to make a spacer for the head tube or cut it down not sure what I’m gonna do yet . The engine mounts are for a flat reed not sure what the motor build is gonna look like yet but I’m sure it will be decently fast . The rear wheel that’s on it is some 14 inch dirt bike wheel that’s way to wide so that will get swapped hopefully with a 16 inch tomos revival rear wheel . The tank and seat are still up in the air I test fit a bunch of tanks on it and really didn’t like them but I’ll post them maybe you guys can tell me what you think about them . I did do a mock up on photoshop that I really liked with a king and queen seat but I can’t find one that will fit so I’d have to make one not sure if I want to yet . Oh also I’m going to be doing build videos along with it so when I make the first one I’ll post it up on here there’s little to no moped content on YouTube so let’s see if I can help change that !

Re: Derbi rd50 chopper build thrad

What part is the RD50? Just the top triangle of the frame?

Re: Derbi rd50 chopper build thrad

Terbo Speghetti /

This is just an underpowered motorcycle. Where's any rd50 anywhere in that bike? The motor mount plates?

Re: Derbi rd50 chopper build thrad

Nice to see aj banana’s Handy work surface again! God this thing was literally the worst build I’ve ever seen and he never even got it running halfway decent before he parted it out. Was a minty c5 that Seth k owned at one point, sad. Put a Lifan on it. Not even worth a derbi engine at this point.

The front half of the frame is ac5 now that I know that thanks jack ! Yeah it’s quite a jank job it’s gonna need some bracing and cleaning up for sure . It’s gotta have a Derbi motor though after riding your Derbi free spirit I was hooked I wanted a Derbi chopper with a sissy bar to be my rally bike

Re: Derbi rd50 chopper build thrad

Chop the rear triangle off and start over, the lines look terrible, besides being janky.

Christian, hit me up if you need a flat reed, I have a bottom end I’d let go cheap

Y’all know we love a janky Bike, can’t wait to Ride this sinful fuck.

Re: Derbi rd50 chopper build thrad

Rick from Black Black actually did the frame for me.

Parting things before you finish them is the best.

Re: Derbi rd50 chopper build thrad

With a hard tail chopper your going to want a springer seat, I had a Yamaha xs650 chopper that had forward controls with a seat similar to the second one. I would cringe when I seen a pot hole coming up. That thing was a rough ride.

Re: Derbi rd50 chopper build thrad

selle giuliari seats come up often and cheap, you can even buy em new on ebay amazon. i'd be searching local swapmeets and crap - let randomness of the selection be your guide

Re: Derbi rd50 chopper build thrad

Cristian Luna /

I guess ill go with the springer then because id like to keep my ass in one piece

Re: Derbi rd50 chopper build thrad

This build has potential, but please for the love of got re do that rear end. also im all about fully padded king n queen seats. so the 3rd one is my vote as its kinda close.

Re: Derbi rd50 chopper build thrad

Cristian Luna /

for the rear what would you recommend? From what ive seen most of these choppers have a up sweep in the rear

Re: Derbi rd50 chopper build thrad

Re: Derbi rd50 chopper build thrad

you'd have to build a solid rear fender / rigid seat support

Re: Derbi rd50 chopper build thrad

Cristian Luna /

I like that seat my only concern is the width of it Ill have to email them and see if I can get some measurements. I am already planning on doing a solid rear fender using this one ill have to cut a inch out of the width to make it fit
