Re: Scared to go a long trip. What should I bring?

If you prepare the bike well and you'll need nothing.

Meaning less than 10yr old seals, paper fuel filter in front of carb, fresh oil in the gearbox,

1. Keep temps as low as possible with wc head. Can't say how many times people have air leaks and seize. With wc heads you can have an air leak and have plenty of time to figure out your issue without seizing

2. Use a normal oil mix, 32:1 or 50:1 or something.

3. Carry and extra one of everything so you won't need it.

Tubes, pullers, extra clutch, sockets, extra belt, Cdi or points/condenser plus chain strap vice grip wrench to undo rear pulley and variator nut/clutch bell nut, flywheel nut. Bolts, bailing wire, oil duh

On pinball I only had one seize from the miles on the kit, wore it out. (But it was my first ever kit)

I brought an extra kit and mounted it up and we were off.

Don't be afraid, it's the most thrilling thing ever to be traveling by mopeds long distances.

Oh, a phone or gps is cool to have mounted, along with a 12v out for phone charging as you ride.

Bring a chase vehicle, so you don't have to ride with all that crap.

Re: Scared to go a long trip. What should I bring?

Planning on doing some spring ped/camping trips with my buddy. Gonna try to cruise and not push the engine hard and take backroads to avoid all the idiots. Should be a blast and I look forward to maybe some pics of your trip. Good luck! Speaking from myself driving an old vw across the us, take a friend on another ped, usually helps if there's a break down and everyone takes a few parts, tools, and know how.

AAA recreation vehicle. Plan.

Regular AAA doesn't work for mopeds BTW.

Re: Scared to go a long trip. What should I bring?

I rode from NY to Key West and back one Summer in the 1970s. Aside from my camping gear and snacks, I only brought a small tool box and a spark plug. Back then, every bicycle shop sold mopeds, so I bought anything I needed on the road. Try that today. There were four of us and it was the best Summer of my college years.

Re: Scared to go a long trip. What should I bring?

the 5th of whiskey is a good call, if you do break down and can't fix it, it keeps you entertained while you wait for help

Re: Scared to go a long trip. What should I bring?

Just got back from a major break down 4 miles from home. Bearing gave out and took out my piston crown and squished the piston ring. Had to load her on back of a pick up truck.

Now really having second thoughts lol(edited)

Re: Scared to go a long trip. What should I bring?

Lack of lubrication?

Re: Scared to go a long trip. What should I bring?

Definition of a hobby!

Re: Scared to go a long trip. What should I bring?

Dang yeah If that's the stage 6 setup yeah that bearing can bounce back and forth like 15mm along the wrist pin. lubrication was "probably" fine. It rattled/sideloaded itself to bits. The devil is in the details. Try a wider higher quality bearing next go at it.
