Anyone else riding during this 20F weather here in NY?

Simon Belmont /

Sure is chilly here in Brooklyn, but Tomos always starts first kick with a choke-on.

Re: Anyone else riding during this 20F weather here in NY?

You must be young! :) The bikes run pretty well in the cold....I however do not! ;D

Re: Anyone else riding during this 20F weather here in NY?

I might take my recently kitted Sebring out for a spin this weekend if it doesnt rain / snow. Need to break it in and put some miles on the kit while I can / before spring

Re: Anyone else riding during this 20F weather here in NY?

Brandon Weiss (Detective brandon to you) /

I might, if it weren't for the excessive amount of road salt they put down. In some areas you can't see pavement, it's only salt. It'll eat your bike up quick.

Re: Anyone else riding during this 20F weather here in NY?

Love it. I use to ride my CB550 to work on the coldest day of the year just because it was fun to see the look on people faces. Now Charlotte’s coldest day was either upper teens or low 20s not too cold for snowmobile gear. Then my gear and helmet got stolen out of my truck and I got lazy. Did it for about 10 years. Now I am just lazy and the trucks heater works so nice and I hate the cold with a passion. I still get excited when I see others doing it without a windshield and heated jacket. Plus I don’t want to hit an icy patch on a bridge. We ride all year here because most days are in the 50s. Got to love that 30 temp swing.

Post some pics dude.

Most definitely . Specially when those 200 dollar mopeds are put together with Elmers glue . ;)

I blame salt for not riding, 100%.

Re: Anyone else riding during this 20F weather here in NY?

If you rode a 65 foot duck from manhattan it would be on the news, why would you lie like this?

Re: Anyone else riding during this 20F weather here in NY?

Brandon Weiss (Detective brandon to you) /

This begs the age old question....would you rather fight one horse sized duck, or 100 duck sized horses?

Re: Anyone else riding during this 20F weather here in NY?

100 duck sized horses please. You could just step on them.

1 horse sized duck, big ducks aren't that fast and i doubt a horse sized duck could fly. So you'd be up to kill one very slow non flying duck.

Re: Anyone else riding during this 20F weather here in NY?

But a horse sized duck could stomp you, but yeah prob slow, I still prefer short enemies..plus I know someone I could sell a few duck sized horses to... ;D a reg size goose can hurt you, would not want to see a horse sized one, Without a 12 gauge...

Re: Anyone else riding during this 20F weather here in NY?

Just hose it down real good when you get home, salt go bye bye

The horse or the duck?

Re: Anyone else riding during this 20F weather here in NY?

Use your winter prepped peds in the winter

Hoses don't work real well below 32 degrees....you then get an ice sculpture instead of a moped.

That might look kinda neat with colored lights behind it . ;)

The only thing worth using in the winter is my V8 Ford, :) If I had to run a bike in the winter it would be my QT-50 shaft drive, and would put the stock air box back on, turn signals and close to the ground so when you were about to crash on the ice, notice I said WHEN, not IF, you could just stand up and let the bike go, also no pedal shafts to bend when it goes down.

and keep you from getting the dumb idea of riding it again until spring... ;)

LOL . True , that^ . ;)

But , then we have guys like me that can ride comfortably , all year 'round .

That's because we chase 75° .

Although , the last few days have been pretty cool at 50 - 60 degrees . :(

Re: Anyone else riding during this 20F weather here in NY?

Oh, you poor thing! ;D Though I can't complain, something like 36 ABOVE zero in MN in December is not too shabby.

I know it . Heck , I even have to go through the trouble of using the choke to get the bike started , sometimes .

Re: Anyone else riding during this 20F weather here in NY?

Holy first world problem batman! :D lmfao!

Re: Anyone else riding during this 20F weather here in NY?

Ya, when its in the 20s I stay inside and ride the girlfriend.

I don't mind riding in the cold. My issue is the salt. If it weren't for the salt, I would probably never put my bike away

50 degrees here now, low-mid 50s tomorrow and dry, though we have most stuff we need for the holidays there’s a few things (like 1/2&1/2 Cream for mashed potatoes and cream of mushroom soup for casserole and a few other incidentals) we still need to get

So I’ll be taking my winter beater magnum today and or tomorrow to go to a store or two saving gas in the vans not to mention parking right next to the store front in the bike racks.

Re: Anyone else riding during this 20F weather here in NY?

Whenever I park at the bike racks the security guard waits by my moped/motorcycle to tell me I can’t park there. I usually say well I just did and no one got hurt or died so you should probably go catch some shop lifters and stop hassling me. One time he saw me park wrote down my plate and followed me in the store and called me out on the intercom saying I was illegally parked and would be towed. Haha haha I was literally in the store for 5 minutes buying one thing, I’d love to see the tow truck trying to figure out how to load a moped.

Re: Anyone else riding during this 20F weather here in NY?

No problems with the bike racks out here, I actually parked in the bike rack today at a food store and didn’t lock bike with my cheap cable and lock to the rack because I didn’t have the key with me,

I did lock the fork lock (Hogging half the bike rack) so if someone took my bike they would be riding around in circles if they stole it, wasn’t worried though My beater XK was there when I came out,

Still 50° Here

Just got home with a few items and now my wife says she needs a can of crushed pineapple for a recipe she thought she had so I guess I gotta go out tomorrow for a ride to a store again ;)
